Excellent tips!! I just got married 6 months ago, so I've seen countless episodes of that show. I see what you mean! I checked out a bunch of books from the library, and am reading up on closing the sale. I feel comfortable with the negotiating aspect, but it's closing where I need help. Thanks guys!

I worked high end retail sales and for me, it was all about establishing a relationship with my customer. Find something in common, even if you have to fudge a little bit. Ask how their day is going and find part of it to expand on. I found that customers that I spent a minute getting to know often bought more.

I worked in sales for several years. Mostly retail, but sales just the same.

The process I taught was get the background info, narrow it down to 2 choices (if applicable), create the vision, ask questions, ask for the sale.

As a closer, I found being knowledgable about my product, able to answer any and all questions that could come up really helped sell the product. You have to be able to convience someone why they need that product. When someone is on the fence, (you will know by the ums, I don't know answers) ask what they are uncomfortable with, or do you have any questions I can help answer. Once all questions are answered, ASK FOR THE SALE! This is the biggest piece of advise I would give to my consultants/trainees. Don't be afraid to ask for it. You will suceed about 70%-80% of the time.

Watch Say Yes to the Dress...they do this EXACT same thing. They are great for getting sales tips.

@adnama: Thank you so much for replying! My friend in sales was telling me to say things like "what do we need to do to make you feel comfortable moving forward" when they say no. Does that sound like a good idea to you? I'm going to the bookstore tomorrow to read up on sales. I applied for an entry-level position, but with my background they want me to interview for a mid-level position.

Hi there! I am in sales! I work from home, generate my own leads, follow through, and get the sale! I sell radio advertising! I don't love my job. I am stressed at meeting my quota. I am currently taking a course to become a mortgage agent. It will still be sales, but working for my self.. so if I don't meet my quota... I don't have to worry about being fired! lol
Having said that, almost every month I do make my quota, and finished way higher than I was required to for the year.

Your position is different, since I'd say about 80% of the time I am prospecting and finding new clients to pitch to.

Since you are working on closing, I'd suggest coming up with what you are going to say when people say "no". It does happen, and it sucks.. so having a line other than "ok.. thanks!" works well.

Good luck!

Do you like your job? what's a typical day like? I have a second interview with a company doing "in house" sales next week. I've never worked in sales, and don't know much (yet- def researching now!) Any interview tips? It's for a Sales Executive Position. I don't have to generate leads, just follow through and close the deal. They told me to be prepared to answer how I'll meet my quota. I'm coming from an entirely different field, so again I don't know much but have been applying to any and everything I think I would be good at.
