@Meridian: My LO was the same way - I basically had to feed him while he was asleep and/or swaddled. He was gaining well (around 60-65% for weight), but Zantac didn't work for him at all. Once the ped switched him to Prilosec (around 11 weeks old) and it kicked in, he started eating well again. He still has days where he is more of a grazer (which I can't blame him for - I'm the same way and have been since I was a kid), but overall it's so much better now at 23 weeks.

@Meridian: at 11 months, she finally started drinking her bottles awake. That was amazing!

She was also verrrrry slow to start with solids--she just had an aversion to anything going in her mouth while awake, I guess. I assume she associated it with tummy pains. But a couple of weeks after she turned 1, a flip just switched and she started eating a ton of food, and all kinds of food.

On her birthday, she basically refused to eat anything but orange slices all day (in terms of solids), and two weeks later she was devouring an entire salmon fillet, with broccoli and green beans as a side.

She started out at 50% for weight...in her non eating days, fell to 27% for weight, and ever since her 1 year appointment, has hovered around 45% for weight at every appointment.

@Anagram: omg, yes! We often have to get him super drowsy with his paci and then dream feed him during the day when he's super fussy! When did your LO become a better eater?

@Mrs Green Grass: I'm going to ask about switching meds at our next check up on Monday!

@Meridian: my LO was like that... It got to the point where she wouldn't eat awake AT ALL... We had to feed her asleep from 3-11 months. I honestly thought she would need feeding therapy, and that she would be delayed in the feeding area forever. But she's a great eater now!

We eventually figured out she was MSPI.

D rarely ate more than 18oz. We fortified all feeds to 24 calories. I would also ask to try a different reflux med. Zantac doesn't seem to work for a lot of babies. Prevacid worked best for us. I agree not to worry a ton as long as your Lo is gaining, but I've been there and it's really hard not to worry and obsess. I sure did. At 2 yo my Lo is still small and we still increase the cals in his milk, but he's doing great.

Mine!
J has never ever been a good eater. When he was small I was so freaked out about it but he's a light eater at 3 now.
He's always been on his own curve (30th percentile weight, 70th height). But he was never the kid that wolfed down his meals.

Go through my archived started threads from late summer/early fall. We went through all of this. For us switching to prevacid, and getting me on an MSPI diet + switching LO to nutramigen (I combo fed bc of low supply-- then eventually just formula fed) started a turn around for us. But it has been a long road back. I'd say now she eats 90% normally.

I exclusively pump, so my LO (17 weeks/12 weeks adjusted) is bottle fed. He just does NOT like to eat! He's supposed to be eating 24 oz per 24 hours or MORE, but we're lucky if he hits 20 oz a day. He probably averages 18 oz per 24 hours. He's on Zantac for reflux, but there are days where he cries during every feeding and rejects every bottle. It hurts my heart :crying: We've been to the peds twice about it (first time they prescribed the Zantac), but they aren't overly concerned because he's still gaining weight.

Is anyone else's LO not much of an eater? Did it get better?
