@tlcbaby: Glad to hear your appointment went well and your LO is thriving even though he's a little peanut! Hopefully he takes to solids and you have a good weight check-in! :)

My LO was the same way, we were praying that she doubled her birth weight at her 1 year check up (she did thank goodness!) She was born at 8 lbs 10 oz, dropped down to 7 lbs 12 oz. when we left. She didn't double until just before a year.

Our Ped was more concerned with her hitting her developmental milestones which she did, so she just kept an eye on her weight but knew she was thriving, I wouldn't be too worried as it sounds like your LO is eating good & is full!

@tlcbaby: Good news!

ETA: I've been pleasantly surprised that our ped is not totally beholden to the charts and takes a whole view of baby's development, and it sounds like yours does too. I think this is great!

I have a 24 pound 8 month old niece and a 20 pound 10 month old nephew. Both are completely healthy! One is just short and chunky and the other is long and lean.

Glad to see your doc isn't concerned! All babies are different. :)

@Adira: Just a little update. We had our 6 month appt. yesterday and the pediatrician wasn't really worried. He did show us that he had dropped on the curve, but said as long as he doesn't flatten out or go lower on the curve then he isn't worried. He also said he is well developed and hitting his other milestones and he looks healthy and happy.

He just suggested we start pushing solids a little more and we are going in for a weight check next month. So, all around good news!

@tlcbaby: I had/have the same worries. As long as he's happy, meeting milestones etc., I wouldn't worry too much. Once he's on solids, find some nice high fat things to feed him. LO loves yogurt, cheese and avocado

@tlcbaby: Our numbers are very similar. My LO was 8.10 at birth and at her 6 month checkup she was 15.1. Her dr was not concerned since said she's on the curve and meeting all of her milestone developments. She met every single thing that was asked on the checklist, is a happy, calm baby and sleeps well so I am not worried.

I think we just barely doubled at 6 months, but the last three months, she's ticked upwards in terms of weight. She just had her 12 month appt today and was 17 lbs...was 5 lbs 8 oz at birth.

DD didn't double her weight until nine months. Bigger birth weights are harder to double. There no way DD will triple hers by year one. She'll be at least seven pounds shy of doing so. Still healthy though.
As long as he is gaining, meeting milestones, and having enough diapers you shouldn't worry.

@tlcbaby: Nope, not even a little. Xander started off (at birth) in the 70th percentile for weight, then was the 55th (around 2 weeks), then 33rd (around 2 months), then 17th (4 months) and 15th (6 months) and now 13th (9 months). Since from 4 months on, he's been AROUND the same percentile, my pediatrician isn't concerned. He's just a little peanut and that's normal for him. He also doesn't eat a ton of solids (he refused to start until 7 months and didn't consistently get solids every day until 8 months and now at 9 months is JUST starting to get two meals a day).

@tlcbaby: Your baby sounds so close that it shouldn't be an issue. Breast fed babies grow a little differently. You should look at a breastfed growth chart and make sure he is still on the curve. My son was failure to thrive and he didn't double his birth weight until he was 1 year old. At 6 months he hadn't gained any weight (not even an ounce) and had lost some weight due to sickness.

Your baby, supply sound perfect.

Our pediatrician also mentioned around 6 months (or maybe it was at 4 months) that it's normal for growth to start slowing down when they start sleeping longer at night!

It sounds like he is doing really well! My LO is small so I always worry about this. I believe our ped said that the doubling they look for is from their lowest weight - so what they drop down to in those first few days after birth, not birth weight - so maybe your LO did actually double?

i don't remember LO's weight stats, but i remember my pediatrician mentioning at our 6-month appointment that some slowdown in weight gain is typical around that point because babies are starting to move a bit more--i.e. rolling, learning to crawl/crawling, etc. sounds like he's happy and growing, so i hope everything is okay! don't be hard on yourself--you're doing a great job!

Xander's 9 months and STILL hasn't doubled his birth weight! Our pediatrician didn't seem concerned.

His birth weight was 8 lbs 14 oz and he's currently 17 lbs 7 oz. Try not to worry about it!! Despite being born big, Xander's always been a slim baby - that's just his normal physique! <3

A turned six months yesterday. He was 8lbs 9oz at birth and is only 15lbs 8oz roughly (tried weighing him at home by weighing myself and then weighing us together). His weight gain has barely moved since his four month appointment, but he nurses roughly 8-9 times a day, doesn't act hungry between feedings and he seems to be growing taller, just not filling out.

Of course, I am worried that its my fault and I am not feeding him often enough or producing enough. I don't have to pump often, but when I do, I get plenty of milk and I still get really full at night when he goes longer between feedings.

Just wondering if anyone else had a slow growing baby like mine or if I should be concerned? We do have a checkup this month so I will obviously bring it up with our pediatrician, as well.
