@MrsMom: thankfully? We went through tubes when she was 13 months so we already have a relationship with an ENT. And apparently I trust her so much that I didn’t ask any questions (so not my norm) and couldn’t answer anything for my DH. I just dread dealing with a “sick” kid so I don’t look forward to post op care.

@MamaG: I'm curious about this as well. DS is 3.5 and his pediatrician is sending us to an ENT to confirm a tonsillectomy is needed due to his tonsils being too big. They're causing him to snore and drool also have recurrent ear infections that he thinks are linked to the tonsils preventing proper drainage.

I'm very nervous and I haven't even met with the ENT yet. I'll be thinking of you!

Reviving an old thread as I’m searching this topic. My 3.5 year old has been recommended to have surgery from our ENT. I just need to see when we can manage a week off work.

@yellowbird: sorry for the delayed response! That is so good to hear. For anyone else who might be interested in the future- We had the surgery on Friday. That day he was amazing and a ball of energy...you would never know he had surgery. However, yesterday he had some wheezing/excess mucus. Today that was gone, but he was pretty lethargic. He's also had a low grade fever. Hoping tomorrow will be more normal.

@bloved: my daughter had her tonsils and adenoids out in February. She was 3.5. The procedure was SO fast! Recovery was a lot easier than I expected. My daughter did amazing. She mostly slept the day of surgery, the second day her throat was pretty sore but she ate a million ice pops and that made her happy. The third day she ate soft foods and was back to playing.

Reviving this thread...my 3 year old is scheduled to have his tonsils and adenoids removed this Friday. Anyone else have a story to share about recovery/things they wish they had known? Also curious how long recovery was.

I had them out as an adult and I really wish they'd been removed when I was little. It took me 3 weeks to be able to go back to work and another few weeks before I was completely healed. The doctor told me kids heal in 3 days max.

Not our LO, but me, my brother and my sister all had them and adenoids out. I was 7 my sister was 5 and my brother was almost 3. My brother had huge tonsils and it was affecting his breathing and sleeping. My sister and I had non stop throat infections.

I remember being sore for a few days but it not being too bad. My mom said all of us handled it pretty well!

My son is 3.5 and seems like he is heading towards recurrent strep throat. One of the peds in our practice suggested seeing an ENT for possible tonsil removal. Since birth he has had huge tonsils, is still a major drooler, and mouth breather. She is also concerned about his sleep quality due to how large they are.

Obviously surgery scares my husband and I but constant sickness and antibiotics doesn't make me happy either.

Anyone had their LO's tonsils out and care to share your experience.
