yes I had (still have) this problem... DD2 stopped taking bottles at 6 weeks and here we are still nursing without any bottles at 13 months. mostly because though I'm a SAHM... otherwise I would've kept at it. I think persistence is key. Try with the bottle she used to take. I wouldn't change it up too much. Babies like consistency... It will be frustrating, but know that if you give up now, it's harder the older they get. Since you are going back to work, just keep at it and keep it as routine as possible.

Has anyone else besides you tried to give the bottle? Dad, grandma/grandpa? I think sometimes LOs won't take a bottle if Mom tries to give it because they know your breasts are right there.

@MrsBells - Thats probably what I'll have to do, just bottle feed for a few days. How long did it take you? I'm just not sure I can handle it. Right now I just try to give her an ounce once or twice a day and usually we don't even get it all down. The screaming and crying doesn't stop and I feel like I'm at my wit's end. (Un?)fortunately I have to be gone all day next Saturday and DH will be with her, so that may have to be the day it happens!

@C.Sassy - So far I'm the only one she'll take it from but that may be just because I'm the most persistent when she starts crying.

We tried so many bottles and spent so much money and in the end, my LO settled on the Medela bottles that came free with my pump. Go figure!

And she will not starve! The worst that can happen is that your babe might "reverse cycle" and want to eat all night since she didn't eat during the day, but even that probably won't last long. My LO refused a bottle from everyone at home and was so stubborn, but after a couple days in daycare, she was taking a bottle like a champ.

No, she will not starve herself! Our strategy was to just keep trying with the same bottle every day (we used the medela bottles/nipples). DH was super persistent and it paid off! LO went on a bottle strike (he only gets one at bedtime) when we went away on vacation and it took us one day after we got home to start up again.

Just keep trying!

The mOmma bottles are the only ones that have worked for us. Have other people tried giving the bottle to her? LO is getting to the point that she doesn't like me to give her a bottle, and even sometimes won't drink it if I'm in the room. I'm sure she'll get used to it once she goes to daycare.

I have had the same issue, we have tried a 1/2 dozen bottles, but I have given up now because I have the luxury of Canadian 1 year mat leave and I decided it wasn't worth the fight.

MAM is what finally worked for my son. Your baby may reverse cycle but she won't starve herself if mama isn't available when at daycare.

@BeachMama: Aww sorry to hear that , well all I can say is hang in there and keep at it. When I had a month left to go back to work I started bottle feeding her all day. and would only nurse at night. It was a struggle but now she is fine with the bottle.

Are you feeding pumped milk or formula? Because she may not like the taste of the formula

I've tried a bunch of nipples/bottles (Medela, Dr. Browns, Playtex, silicone, latex), positions (bouncer chair, cradled, sitting up), milk temps, etc. The playtex nipples seem to be her least favorite - they're so bendable that all she does is bend it with her tongue and spit it out. The Mam bottles have been recommended too, but I was just hoping to avoid buying more.

I went through this and it took about a month but we kept trying different nipples. This is the only nipple she likes now. Its an orthdontic nipple by playtex and works with their drop-in system

Have you tried any other nipples or bottles?

I've been trying to get LO (10 weeks) to take a bottle for over a month now and it's still as much of a struggle as in the beginning. I can usually get her to take an ounce or so, but it takes an hour and lots of crying and fussing. I return to work in one month and she'll need to take bottles during the day at daycare. I'm assuming, worst case scenario, she'll have a rough couple first days at daycare but will eventually take the bottle. She's not going to starve herself, right?!
