@gracecat- he's 3.5 months, but hasn't learned how to roll and isn't showing signs he's going to do it soon.

Hmm... I'm not sure... we had our girl on our bed the whole time then sleep trained her starting in the crib and it was successful. We didn't try to get her used to the crib before sleep training. I guess it would be great but it's not necessary. You could still do a little bit of rocking, just not completely to sleep, just enough to make him drowsy. Is he not old enough to sleep on his tummy?

He was cosleeping with us for the past two weeks (on his tummy to help with congestion... He doesn't really care about actually sleeping with us b/c sometimes I put him on his tummy on the couch at night so we don't wake my husband and he's okay) b/c he was sick but tonight was supposed to be back in his crib. On his tummy he can sleep two long stretches of 5-6 hours and wake for two feedings. So I know he really just doesn't know how to put himself to sleep. After an hour and a half of rocking tonight he would stay asleep in his crib so we finally just moved him to the bed again on his tummy. We don't want him to be overtired when we start sleep training. We so have a night routin ww've been doing for a month - bath, bottle, books, song and then rock him to sleep. I'm just wondering if its going to be hard for him when we sleep train this Friday if we don't move him to his crib. He'll have to get used to no rocking, sleeping on his back again after two weeks on tummy and his crib. What do you think? Thanks for your reply!

Yes, you should develop a night time routine so when you do this each evening it prepares baby and gets baby into the mindset that soon he/she will be going to sleep for a while (as opposed to a short nap). Ours includes nurse, bath, lotion/massage, dress in PJs, swaddle, bedtime story, sound machine/dark lighting, shush/pat/bounce, then lay baby in crib drowsy but awake.

Hello Bees - We start sleep training this Friday. Is there anything special I need to do to get him ready? He was sick so he was co-sleeping on his tummy in bed with us, but tonight was the first night we went back to the swaddle and in his crib. We are rocking him to sleep right now. Should I be doing anything special to get him ready for sleep training at the end of this week?
