YES it helps soooo much! I’ve used it with all three of my babies.

BUT you need to figure out what’s causing you pain. It’s really just a bandaid solution. How’s his latch? Has he been checked for tongue and lip ties?

Yes, it helped! I do think there is an element of pain whenever a baby is learning to breastfeed, but APNO can help until baby is figuring out their latch.

I haven’t used the cream you mentioned, but I wanted to second the suggestion to have babe checked out for tongue ties. The LC will know what to look for. My first had a minor tongue tie, so we waited to have it corrected thinking it would be fine. That was a big mistake that caused me a ton of pain. Because of that experience I had my other two checked out for ties at birth. We just had our third last week, and I had his (also minor) tie clipped at three days. I was starting to have some nursing pain, and within a day of him getting clipped I felt fine.

I also agree with the suggestion to use a nipple shield while you’re healing. I had to use one on and off for a few months with my first.

Helped a lot!! My kids all latched and we had no issues but the first bit hurts a lot, so don’t give up (if you don’t want to). Put it on and air dry if you can.

I used it and it was a game-changer. I tossed my lanolin after I got it for baby #2. Highly recommend!

@LadyDi: My midwife hasn’t mentioned anything about nipple shields yet, but I’m totally open to trying them. Hoping to go see an LC tomorrow, so will ask about them.

@MamaBear87: Thanks, that’s good to hear that it helped you. My DS’ latch was actually pretty good at first....but I’ve noticed he struggles more now with latching, I think because he is getting a bottle with formula supplement several times a day. So it’s really taken a toll on my nipples, which sometimes makes me flinch in pain when he tries to latch. Not a good cycle :(

Apno helped me tons while I waited for my son's latch to get better.

If you're having latch issues I would get baby checked for ties, we had my littles revised at 9 days old and it made a world of difference

Good luck! I hope things feel better soon

Has anyone ever used APNO (All Purpose Nipple Ointment) to help with sore/cracked nipples while breastfeeding?

I am 8 days postpartum with #2 and in a lot of pain. I was never able to EBF my daughter due to a poor latch and low supply, and after four months of nursing/pumping/formula supplements, I finally gave up and switched to formula full time (which ended up being a huge relief once I was able to let go of the guilt).

Things *seemed* to be going better with my DS this time around, although we are still supplementing due to mild jaundice and slow weight gain. But now I am in a lot of pain, and worried this will jeopardize my hopes for a better breastfeeding experience this time. My midwife prescribed APNO which I’m supposed to pick up later today. Is it likely to make a huge difference in the pain or should I not get my hopes up?
