@Anagram: thanks for the update! I think we will need to do a little crash course before school resumes and this just made it simpler for me!

Bumping this in case anyone else ever wants a free source: we ended up using timestables.com. They have modules for each times table, plus multiplication games they can play after they’ve learned a particular times table.

So DD1 made her way through the 12 modules in the past month. It’s using her short-term memory, not long term memory, so I won’t say it will definitely all “stick”, but it’s been a good intro and now she knows all her times tables and just needs to keep practicing to reinforce.

I know she’ll see if all again in 2nd grade, but knowing her times tables opens so many doors in math—she already understands basic division and fractions. So lately we’ve been working on fractions/decimals/percentages and of course you have to know multiplication to understand coming denominators, etc.

And after doing timestables.com for free, we broke down an bought IXL for a month. She gets it for free during the school year, but not summer. My kids share an account, so DD1 is working through 3rd and 4th grade math, and DD2 is working through K math.

Anyway, I do recommend the site! It’s free, it works, it’s a little boring but I guess all repetition is.

I would look to see if ST Math's free access for families is extending through the summer. You can set which standards kids work on, and it is a great program for developing conceptual understanding.

I feel like there was a thread recently about this, but now I can’t find it. Is there a great app/website/game out there that teaches the times tables and doesn’t just quiz kids that already know their times tables (if that makes sense)?

We’ve checked out multiplication.com and a few other sites and those games are more for testing/refreshing kids who have already learned their times tables.

Right now, she knows the easy ones like the 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, and 11s. She needs to learn all the rest and I don’t want to sit and do flash cards with her (I need something she can do while I work).

Suggestions?
