@lilyofthewest: I’m feeling much better thanks for asking! Probably like 90% healed and I’m 3 weeks post-op now. I’d say it took my 2 weeks to feel remotely normal and now I can do almost everything again!! I ended up on antibiotics for a wound infection and I think that helped with the pain too!

Thanks everyone! I think my problem is I’m on my feet for 12+ hours and don’t have an option to do a desk job etc. I definitely am starting to feel better so I will see what I’m like closer to Friday! Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I had the same surgery several years ago (non-ruptured, laparoscopic) and I took a week off work. I was on a reduced work-load and mostly desk-bound until about 4 weeks post-op.

I found it hard to accept how long it took to heal because being laparoscopic, it doesn't look like much from the outside (I had three tiny incisions). I had to keep reminding myself that it was really the internal healing that I was waiting for.

Hope you're back to feeling like yourself soon!

So sorry! I had a ruptured appendix in September 2017 (5 month PP and c-section). They were also able to still do laparoscopic so I remember the healing quite well. I had surgery on a Friday and didn’t rerun to work for an extra week (10 days later). Although I didn’t feel 100% even then, I was capable of sitting to do the paperwork around my job. I didn’t feel full recovered for 3 weeks. Prayers for a quick recovery!

I had a laparoscopic appendectomy my junior year of college. My surgery was late on a Friday night, I was back in my dorm the next night, and went back to class the following Tuesday. Walking to class/around campus was challenging for probably a full week.

Not quite the same ...I had my gall bladder removed laparoscopically a few years ago and it took a good week before I felt better. And another week after that before I felt completely like myself and up to normal activities. I was on Mat leave so didn’t have to go back to work by a certain time but dealing with a 6 week old and 2 year old was no picnic.

Feel better soon!

Not sure how useful my experience is since mine was an exploratory open laparotomy (appendix was not in the usual place) in 1988...but, FWIW:

I was able to go back to almost all routine activities within 2 weeks but some stretching movements and heavier lifting still bugged me several months later.

I had appendicitis earlier this week and had a laparoscopic appendectomy on Tuesday morning (now Saturday evening) and I’m really surprised how crappy I still feel! It didn’t burst so I was honestly expecting recovery to be a piece of cake, but maybe this was unrealistic!

I’m a nurse and work shift work so I was scheduled to work my first shift (of four) the day of my appendectomy. I’m scheduled to go back to work next Friday (so 10 days post-op) and at this point I don’t even know if i’ll Be able to do that.

Anyone care to share their experiences? How long did you take off work?

Thanks!
