We never used infant mittens, but I did buy some wool mittens from REI that my kids would keep on starting around a year. Before then, I just used buntings with built in mittens. We are getting them snow mits for this winter, they'll be 18 months around xmas, and we'll see if they keep them on!

I've been thinking about this too! LO is 4.5 months and I'm sure she'll pull them off, so I may skip them. I do have a fleece bunting that I got her that has the built in mittens, I plan on using that for walks and in the carrier.

We used socks on her hands because they did tend to get lost. The other thing we had was mittens connected on a string that went through the arms of her coat and behind her back so even if they fell off they weren't lost.

I think if you get the right mittens it's worth it. The little cotton ones are useless but the ones with elasticized cuffs are great. Haven't lost one yet.

We have a Columbia bunting with the fold over cuffs. That's great it also has fold over feet.

No mittens in Canadian winters is really not an option. I put them on underneath her shirt and jacket. They stay on pretty well.

Umm we just used our mittens on A (four months) for the first time tonight on a walk and one was gone by the time we came home. I am going to walk the same route this morning and see if we find it. :/

Anything that has elastic is a waste of money. If you can find mitten that close with velcro it would be more worth while

@Katrocap: my LO is almost 11 months and we use them daily on our walks since its been under 50 degrees. With both on it would be pretty tricky for him to yank off!

Depends on how "baby" he is. I prefer things with built-in mittens for the first couple of years for that reason. It can be very dangerous to play outside and have a mitten come off depending on the temperature. I know several toddlers in our area have ended up with frostbite that way. If you are watching and keep putting mittens back on there really isn't danger, but it's interruptive to play and annoying on both ends. I'd go for built-ins until age two or so.

It's starting to get chilly here and I'm thinking about DS's hands when we are outside. Should I buy mittens for him? Or will he just yank them off and they'll get lost?
