We had a few pairs, but he only ended up wearing them when we'd going running or when we were outside for a long period of time. He's like a little inferno, so he'd wake up sweating if he wore them to bed.

We used them more once LO was sleeping with a blanket since he constantly kicked it off. I also found that we got a lot of hand me down ones that weren't as warm as new ones.

we never used them last winter (when lo was like 8-11 months)--there was a steam pipe in our old apt and her room was so hot we always kept her a/c window unit on! and it'd still be in the mid-70s in her room. we're in a new apt this winter so we'll see what the building's heat situation is like, though now that she's older we'll prob introduce a blanket instead

It depends on your room temp! We actually need fleece in the fall, but not winter (it's colder indoors when the heat keeps getting turned on and off, but once heating season gets going it's really warm inside).

We use them. But we never used sleep sacks, and at 19mo still haven't introduced a blanket because our son rolls around a lot when he sleeps and usually kicks the blanket off when he sleeps with us.

No I've never used them. I hate the way fleece feels on my skin so I imagine it feels like that for DS too. He is a hot sleeper and even though our house is cool he doesn't need them.

@Torchwood: oh yeah, I wouldn't do fleece under a swaddle. But we stopped swaddling at 3.5 months. Over the summer she often slept only in a onesie because it was so hot but now it's cool at night so she definitely needs fleece since she can't use a blanket. It's that or something light plus a sleepsack bus she seems to like just wearing jammies.
@T.H.O.U.: where did you read that a fan reduces SIDS? My understanding has been that there is an increased risk with increased temperatures but that there is no evidence that a fan helps. With that said, we use a fan for white noise and to spin the mobile :)

we used them all the time. still do at almost 3 years old because LO doesn't like to use a blanket still, so i figure the fleece keeps him warm the same way a blanket keeps me warm. At our last place, we used them in the summer too because we had the AC on in his room.

As has been said, it just depends. My LO runs super cold so I put her in fleece on cooler days already. I don't use them at night though because of SIDS. And we swaddle, so fleece under a swaddle seems crazy hot.

We live in a part of the Southeast where it can be pretty cold in Jan-Feb. I guess for now I will invest in a few 3-6 mo cotton PJ's and then maybe get a fleece pair once we assess how our winter is going :) She will be in a sleep sack by then so that will also add some warmth. Thanks, bees!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I guess it depends on how much it blows and how often it turns on/off. Ive just read you want a fan for constant air circulation.

Seems to be a theme here- we are in New England too and needed them. BUT we swaddled or did a sleep sack for her first winter and then they were less necessary (but still used). I think we alternated fleece sleep sack and cotton pjs or fleece pjs and cotton sleep sack. Her room is also the coldest in our condo.

It got harder once we quit the swaddle and sleep sack all together- then fleece was absolutely necessary and we sometimes layered a onesie underneath.
