@mediagirl: late to the party but wanted to tell you I have two pairs that have lasted 3 and 4 NYC winters (I walk probably 3 miles a day?) and they're both still looking great--LOVE them and am super happy with the quality.

However, mine were manufactured in Mexico. Frye recently started manufacturing some of their boots in China, and surprise surprise, quality is worse. A couple of friends have booties from China and the heels are disintegrating, leather scuffs more easily, etc--they're not happy customers. I would still try another Mexican pair from them.

@mediagirl: I think it's important to try them on in a store. I've found when ordering fryes online, the sizing isn't super consistent. Different styles fit totally differently. Even the left and right boot can fit differently and sometimes the leathers don't match. I don't know if it's quality control or what (it's certainly not my feet, they are the same size. ). I recently went through three pairs from amazon. I'm not picky either. They just fit so weird
That being said I own three pairs of fryes. Two Melissa buttons and one inside zip (don't recall that that one is). I've had them each for 4 years plus and they've held up well.

I have 3 pairs and my only regret is that I didn't buy them years ago. I am done buying cute but crappy shoes from brands like Steve Madden that are rarely comfortable and tear up quickly.

DH bought me a pair for our anniversary, and while I didn't keep them (they bunched at my ankles and were tight around my big calves), the quality was noticeable! In that, they'll be around for quite some time!

I posted a bunch about frye when I was looking and it's been totally worth it! I was able to find the pair I wanted on sale on Amazon. Still a huge amount of money but they feel like sneakers- I can walk long distances in them no problem which is what I was looking for.

I know people love Frye boots, but I spent a ton less money on my Aldo boots and have worn them almost every day 7-9 months a year for three years and they are holding up amazingly well. So I have a hard time imagining how Fryes could be worth the extra $$$ when the Aldos are such high quality.

I would say yes! I have two pairs. One is a pair of my mother's from the 70's and they are in pristine condition. I don't wear them that often but I get so many compliments when I do, when I tell people that they were my mom's they're shocked they made it 40 years, they've held up beautifully..

They are okay. If you love them, that's what matters! I have a couple, but not the typical ones I see on HB. I've got combat and moto. The moto have no tread, so a little dangerous for winter! I think overall they are pretty good quality, I probably wouldn't want a less quality boot.

Absolutely LOVE mine. I have 5 pairs now because I will catch them on sale-Amazon offers 20% off now and then. And they'll run sales for holidays. There's a 10% off veteran discount, too. They never bother my toe box (and I've had two surgeries so I'm particular about shoes now). I saddle soap mine a couple times a year and apply conditioner, too. I've had one pair for about 6 years now and they look great

Yes! I have two pairs and they are top quality. My oldest pair is over four years old and have been resoled once. When I brought them to the cobbler they commented on how they will last forever and they can't resole most boots today due to how they are constructed so poorly.

I think it depends on for what you'll be using them.

I do a lot of walking, and there is snow on the ground 6 months out of the year. I do not wear my Frye boots when there is snow because the soles are not rugged. I find them really comfortable and the leather is soft, and i can walk in them for a long time. I liked that the Melissa Button fit over my big calves and that they don't look too country.

i knew someone who could get me 20% off, otherwise i don't know if i would've bought them!

Btw, this won't help with your GC situation, but I have found that amazon sells them for pretty steep discounts sometimes. I have gotten most of mine there for like $100-$150 (instead of the usual $300+).

I live in a very country area and my friend took me out to buy boots several years ago at a Wilco store. Best boots ever and about $120. It depends on the style you want.

Yes. The leather is super thick, so the boots hold up forever. The downside is that they take longer to wear in and mold to your foot.
