@lamariniere: I did buy the faux snow leopard bunting that @TurtleDoves: mentioned above (1) in case it happens to be very cold and (2) because I have no self-control :)

@littlek: Done! It didn't take much convincing!

@TurtleDoves: hahahaha... I am the same way! :) I love shopping for my LO. He just looks so dang cute in everything (not biased mom at all).

I would buy the jacket, you can definitely have your LO wear it in the stroller and while out and about. And lets get real, it's freaking adorable. BUY it!!! :)

I'm the wrong person to ask because my LO already has three winter coats and three puffer vests. I tried to get her to wear a puffer vest this week (she's 10 months), and she tried to pull it off, but then she got used to it.

I"m with @TurtleDoves: this maybe my only baby girl and I love to shop, so why not!

@SugarplumsMom: I agree, that jacket does not look warm enough for Chicago in February. The last time I visited Chicago it was also in February and it was biting cold out and this was before I had DS.

Depending on how you plan on getting around with DD (car seat or stroller) and how much time you think you will be walking around outside, I would suggest a snowsuit or puffy coat. I second other PP's suggestions about the car seat cover, blanket or a stroller footmuff.

@lawbee11: my mom bought a similar Gap jacket for DD a few months ago. I didn't realize it before, but now that DD is active, it's very thin. So thin, that it would only really work for a late spring day or a chilly summer night. It's way too thin for even fall.

I think if she's giong to be in a stroller in Chicago go for it! And in the picture it doesn't look poofy so it *might* be okay in the carseat, however I had a 12 week old in december and we just threw a blanket over the carseat and it was the best protection.

we live in northern New England, and my (5 month old) daughter has a quilted coat like that. We use it in the stroller, or when we are outside playing. I don't put her in the car seat with it on.
We also have one of these: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D3EPHGM/ref=cm_sw_su_dp
and use that in the stroller or front pack when it is colder.

In the car seat we just do regular clothes + a blanket on top. Then I put her in the appropriate outerwear when we are getting out (or just wrap her up and carry her inside).

Might be too thick for a carseat, but I would still get it and put her in it when we're out and about! :) It was late spring when my LO was that young, but still chilly enough for jackets, so I always had her in a cute fleece zip up or other type of jacket.

But, because you live in TX, I'd get the original one from Gap because, as you mentioned, there would be a chance that she could wear the pink one in TX once in awhile too.

@locavore_mama: the only issue with something like that is that we would get no use out of it at home (we're in southern Texas--never snows, rarely dips below freezing). I feel like with the jacket she could wear that on the coldest days here.
