Thanks everyone! She ended up napping in the car from about 5 to 6pm - we went to Chick Fil A before the performance. She cried the whole way home, when normally if I had kept her up she'd have slept for the ride home, but she went right down when we got in at about 9:30pm. Crossing my fingers tonight is uneventful!!!

Agreed with everyone else, if she'll be up late it's probably not going to affect her too much to let her nap in the car. I'm always so nervous when LO takes a late nap for whatever reason, but it never seems to affect his night sleep too much!

well my LO is only 7mo but she regularly sleeps until 630 then goes to bed at 730. late naps are less of an issue for us than missed naps.

Late naps have never been a big problem for us - DD still falls asleep pretty well at night. I think it just depends on your kid. DD is a great night sleeper so if your kid isn't then it may not be a good idea.

Id let her nap in the car, since she'll be up later than normal.

since the event is late, i wouldn't have a problem with her taking a cat nap in the car!

I think it's worth it to kind of mess up the schedule for special events. I tried to maintain a really strict schedule with LO1, and with LO2, I just can't always because they're on such opposite schedules, and it's really shown me that it isn't a cardinal sin, and it won't ruin her sleep forever, to have a late nap, or miss one here and there, or take a car nap, a stroller/ carrier nap, or to go to bed a little late occasionally. I still think schedule is important, but you also have to live your life and participate in special things sometimes! If I were you, tonight, I would totally allow a car nap and just put her down for bed when she's sleepy, whether that's at her usual bedtime, or a little later to make up for the later nap.

@daniellemybelle: she will probably be going to bed late anyway, right? I think it would be fine. Some things are worth risking. :)

Late naps have never been an issue for us. My LOs can start a nap at 3 and sleep past 5 and still go to bed on schedule at 7:30-8.

LO is 13 months and in the 2 to 1 nap transition. She napped from 11:40-2:10 at daycare today which is amazing! Normally I'd call it a 1 nap day & she'd go to bed by 7.

Well, we have an event tonight at 7:30... And the drive is close to an hour. She sleeps really well in the car... Is it so bad to let her fall asleep on the way? I always hear how late naps ruin night sleep but I don't want her to totally melt down at this thing. (And yes, we have to and want to go.)
