Our family lives on the other side of the US and we've taken LO to Europe once. So almost all her flights (6?) have been that length. Not easy but worth it! She's 2 yo now and a decent flyer.

I think they're worth it. I think the jet lag is the worst part, though. It takes both my son and I a decent amount of time to reset.

For me, it would depend on how long we were able to stay and whether we would have help once there :) The length of your trip (6 days) would probably be borderline for me to consider it worth it! In general I think travelling with kids is important and worthwhile...just a balance between length/expense/hassles to find the right locations!

Dh and I were just talking about this! Specifically about Hawaii. We've taken lo before on a 6-7hr flight with a 5 hour time difference because of work (NYC to London; we tagged some vacation time onto it), and it was fine, and actually better than I feared, but I think we wouldn't want to go any longer than that or do it for a fun trip (as opposed to work) until the kiddos are older.

@Freckles: Where in Cuba did you stay? (Wall me if you want). We are thinking about going in March but I'm having a hard time finding a place that isn't booked and looks nice.

I went across the world with my husband and a teething 11 month old in September—20+ hours on a plane, 30 hours with layovers, 4 airports... not to mention a killer 14 hour time difference once we were there.

We had to go to visit a sick family member but it was absolutely brutal.

However, if it were me, I would actually consider taking a trip to Hawaii as a fun vacation! Especially with kids a little bit older. Do ittttt!

Yes! Unless I had a kid under a year old I would.

@yoursilverlining: Hmmm i never thought about the overnight flight! We did one to Cuba when DD was 8 months old and it was awful but maybe it won't be so bad now that they are older.

@erinbaderin: DS will be just over 2 (which means we have to pay a regular ticket for him :crying: ) and DD will be almost 5. I'm more worried about DS than his older sister. I also wish the Canadian dollar wasn't so crappy.

How old are your kids? Either way I think you should just do it. It might suck, it might not, but either way you'll have a fun vacation.

Just do it :silly: haha

We've done a 6 hour time difference with LO at 4 years old (a 5.5 hour flight + a 1 hour flight) and with an overnight flight it was totally fine. I would really try to aim for an overnight flight if you can though, so much easier to reset your internal clock that way.

We are currently considering a trip to Oahu that would require a 10 hour flight (with layover) and a 4 hour time difference (9am would really be 5am). We would be there for 6ish nights.

We are only doing this as a treat for my parents, but now i'm starting to have second thoughts due to the travel time and time difference! Nothing is booked yet.

Are we crazy? Should we consider a different place? Just do it? :silly:
