We will see though if we get into the centers we applied to! Dh and I both work from home so having a nanny work at our apt isn't an option. I want DD close to my office at first so I can nurse her at lunchtime, but we're definitely open to finding a nanny share once she's older if we decide not to stick with this daycare. I like the idea in theory, especially if the nanny comes to our house instead of having to get baby ready to go somewhere. But when it came down it, it was just easier to find a center we liked. In theory it sounds good but I haven't been able to get the logistics to work out so I voted "yes, but it doesn't appeal to me." We've had big improvements in climbing/reaching skills just from playing together and they seem to eat better when they're together too. We still get the daycare sicknesses because the two girls go to a few playgroups and activities during the week. I'm really happy that they have each other during the day and that if one or either (usually both!) are sick they can have a quiet day and I don't have to miss work. It's also great because they are able to do a lot of different activities. Last week they went to the aquarium and loved it! Nannies in general aren't common. Kids will mostly go to daycare around here. I'd put my kid in daycare if I had to work. Most of them around here are pretty educational. I think they are really common in cities because (1) daycares are SO hard to get into, and (2) nannies are expensive. I love our nanny share arrangement, but unfortunately we have NOT avoided the illness issue. Our nanny has a 2 yo that goes to daycare, so we get all of the daycare germs anyway. I would have done it until 18 +months if we had not relocated. I loved it, I felt it gave us a taste of both worlds in that our LO got lots of personal attention but also got to be with another baby. I especially liked it in the first year to avoid daycare sickness. It was relatively common in NYC but I get the impression that it is a rarity outside that area.
