We never used the paci for nighttime sleep but eventually we started using it when he woke in the middle of the night to see if he was actually waking out of hunger. Most of the time he would take the paci and sleep 2-3 hours more. We were hoping he would learn to sleep through until he was actually hungry but we ended up having to do some sleep training to get rid of that wake up. We still use it for naps but I never have to go in and put it back in if he loses it.

For us it was only 1 wake up at night to insert the paci but if I had to get up multiple times a night to RE-insert then I would ditch it!

for a while we were constantly getting up to put his paci back in at night. he hasn't been as bad the last week or so, but it literally is just him cry, we put the paci back in and he's fine. kind of frustrating, but at least we're only up for a minute or two(at least i am, i can fall back asleep fairly easily)

The story of my life, it seems, i hear you! My lo recently started sttn but i find myself constantly going into her room during naptime to replace the paci! I've been considering going cold turkey but she has also started picking it up on her own and trying to put it in her mouth. Before she was strn, i slept in her room bc of this darn paci issue! Ridiculous but we do what we can to maximize sleep!

I finally got LO to start taking a pacifier. One thing I'm trying to do is when I hear him crying at night, soothe him before just picking him up to nurse, and so far so good. But, I find myself getting up a lot more to pop his paci back in and then he goes back to sleep. So...it's kind of feels like I'm getting up more to soothe him for very short periods of time, instead of getting up less for longer periods of time to nurse.

Thoughts?
