@banana: yeah thats what I plan to do from now on!

@mediagirl: we also try an open cup at home but its not practical for outside yet. she basically tips the cup over or puts her hands inside the cup! sometimes I try an open cup with a regular straw and thats a bit better

We're trying out open cups at dinnertime. Bath time is ALWAYS after dinner time these days.... :)

I've also heard that it can affect speech. Since she's already using straw cups, maybe you can just switch to 100% straw cups? Doesn't hurt?

I've heard similar to @looch; high usage can hurt speech in the long run. But I'd assume that just light use wouldn't be an issue. I think around this time (I've got an 18 month old, as well) we're supposed to be getting them used to a real cup, anyways. Total pain, I know. :)

Straws seem to be better for oral motor development, that's what I have been hearing from the oral motor specialists I have been speaking too. It's not a teeth issue as much as muscle strength in the jaw that straw cups promote.

My daughter is 18 months old now and she mainly uses the zoli straw cup for water but she also used a nuby spout cup for prune juice and a take and toss spout cup for almond milk. I wonder if this is bad for her teeth should I switch her to all straw cups?
