@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Yup, Miami definitely has it's own take on professional attire! ;)

@looch: I second Calvin Klein. I used to get them at the discount stores like Ross and Filene's.

@looch: Calvin Klein. The ultra sheer with the control top. They have them at Nordstrom. Very sheer and a very natural hue. I wear them all winter. I have like 12 pairs and I wash them in a lingerie bag in the washing machine. I have only run 2 pairs in the last 7 years... these things are made out of titanium (which might explain the price).

Skinny pants are fine as long as they're not leggings. Dress them up with a dressy blouse, matching blazer, and pumps, and you'll be fine.

@looch: Because I wear them all the time, I stick to super basic inexpensive hose . . . my go-to is L'eggs Sheer Energy in Nude (they have both control top and non-control top, and I prefer the non-control top). They're really sheer and hardly noticeable, and I don't cry when I run a pair (or two).

ok, thank you SO much everyone! I havent worn pantyhose since I was like 12, but I am trusting your professional opinions on these matters! I think I'm going to go with the nude.

I am probably going to go home and take pics tonight and make this gold to show you all the outfit. Y'all have made me nervous!

I would also skip the button down and go with a simple shell/ cami (in a lightweight fabric like silk) underneath your jacket. Button downs can be difficult to wear under a jacket (too many buttons and/or non-matching buttons!) and can also cause problems with sleeves. Let the men wear the button downs (their suits are built to accommodate the bulk).

@NovBaby1112: Opt for nude/skin-tone hose . . . black opaque is appropriate in winter, but black sheer is too *bordello* for daytime (in this environment). I am in the South and wear hose pretty much every day, and 80 degrees is a mild day for us! It's really not that bad. Not every body wears hose . . . but, I can tell you judges and clients have commented on how nice it is to see a woman in true professional dress.

@NovBaby1112: lol. You have to do what you are comfortable in! I don't do bare legs because my legs are covered in veins, so I would wear pants at the moment.

If anyone has a good rec for a nude pantyhose brand, I'd love to hear it, it has to have a control top and a bit of stretch to the hose, because they just slide down my legs!

@NovBaby1112: honestly, i've always thought nude pantyhose were outdated, unless they have a cute pattern on them like the ones from express. I usually stick with black or gray.

I would wear the skirt. I tend to err on more conservative boring lawyer in black suits. nearly everyday. I did recently purchase a tan suit, and its epic! No one in our office wears skinny pants, and if it's more conservative old men I would definitely wear suit, black dress, or pencil skirt.

For an older and more conservative group, I would wear a skirt suit, button-down shirt, and approximately 2-inch heels. A jacket over a sheath dress would also be an acceptable choice. Keep the hemline longer; ideally it would either just cover your knees, or skim the top of them. Minimal jewelry and closed-toed shoes (not stilettos and no crazy patterns).

Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, J.Crew, and Theory all make nice suits that will last for a number of years and not look dated. Navy blue, black, and gray are good color choices. (P.S. It seems Theory is pushing collarless jackets at the moment--don't bother with those.)
