SO many female names are feminized forms of male names to begin with. My husband shot down truly girly names that I like just because (Lily, Felicity, etc), and none of my female relatives had good names (Laverne? Marlys?) So I went to the most influential person in my life - Charlie - and chose the feminine version of his name. The nicknames tend to be unisex, but the legal names USUALLY maintain some definite gender.
