@Cole: another bee with UI! Mine was discovered at 27w when I went to triage with timeable contractions that were wrapping around my lower back to around my belly. They didn't cause me to progress, though, and after a few hours of monitoring I was sent home. My OB recommended a support belt for the heavy feeling I had, and it works wonders.

As of 34w, I'm 1cm and 30% effaced so I think at some point, the contractions were actually doing their job. Mine were timeable and getting closer and closer yesterday, then abruptly stopped. I've had a few today but no where nearly as intense as yesterday. I was told this is considered false labor!

And just like someone else said, it really doesn't seek to have any bearing on when you'll actually go into labor. Another bee had UI, and she said it didn't impact the quality of her labor either (I thought with all this practice, labor would be quick and easy but that doesn't seem to be the case!).

My OB has me drink a ton of fluid. I drink about 10-12 16.9oz bottles a day. If I'm having contractions she usually has me drink 2-3 bottles at a time and lay on my left side for an hour b

@BakerBee: Thanks! It helps to hear stories of people with an irritable uterus where things turn out just fine. I still don't know that that's what is going on but it seems pretty likely at this point.

@Cole: I have an irritable uterus and, while it sucks, my doctor has assured me that this doesn't mean I will go into labor early. I was found to have one at 27 weeks after bleeding and contractions, went back for more bleeding and contractions at 32 weeks, and baby boy is still cooking at 38 weeks. I did end up getting put on procardia.

Thanks everyone, after monitoring at home for awhile and chatting with the midwife a few times I am pretty sure they are definitely braxton hicks and I might be on the road to an irritable uterus diagnosis. I am only 30 weeks so I am hoping she stays put for another ten weeks or so. We decided it makes sense to go in to the office tomorrow to be seem as opposed to the hospital tonight unless things get worse.

Sounds like BH to me as well. There was NO mistaking true contractions. They are often described as wrapping around your midsection and it's usually typically obvious what's happening. It's better to be checked, but I wouldn't get my hopes up yet.

Definitely sound like Braxton Hicks. You may have an irritable uterus (I do :silly: ) which means you contract early and often, but it doesn't dilate you.

Doesn't hurt to call your doctor.

Sounds like BH to me as well. BUT if it makes you feel any better, I didn't notice any BH really until the night before my water broke at 3am. Then the contractions started and I remember saying I wasn't in much pain, but I did have to sit down to get through them - that's when I knew they were real contractions and not just BH. But we were already headed in since my water broke.

@Cole: do they hurt? For me that tightening feeling was true for BH contractions but the real contractions had the same tightening and were painful. I was induced with pitocin though so I can't speak to natural ones.

Agree with everyone that they're BH. Contractions will typically ramp up in length, not go back and forth.

If they still don't let up after laying down and water then it doesn't hurt to go get checked out since your OB already OK'd it.

I agree, it sounds like BH. I had an episode where I was up to 8/hr for 2 hours and went in to get checked. Turned out to be no big deal. They seem to ramp up when I'm tired and/or thirsty.

They sound like my BH contractions...which are what my actual contractions felt like until my water broke. Better to be checked!!

They are varying lengths, I am laying on my left and drinking, since I laid down I had one laying down and two others when I got up to go to the bathroom/get more water. They aren't regular, it's like two will cluster together and then another a bit later. Some are over a minute long but some are only 20-30 seconds. I have had to pee like four times in an hour.

I assume your OB has asked you to walk around, lay down, drink water etc? And none of that has been changing it?

Also are they regular and how long are they lasting?

I hate that this is my second such post but I am hoping maybe I am getting this wrong. I already called and we are waiting another 20 minutes to make the decision for me to go in.

My belly keeps getting really hard, especially in the lower half. Sometimes I can feel them, it's a tightening feeling, sometimes it feels like pulling in my lower belly. Other times I can't tell until I poke my belly and it's hard. Occasionally the top of my belly isn't hard though and sometimes my belly is hard for so long that I wonder if it's not a contraction and just the way I am sitting or something.

Any thoughts? I think I am up to 8 in an hour  so I am probably heading in.
