Love love love our video monitor. We are going to get a second monitor + camera for #2 (second monitor so we can have one on first floor and second floor). I know it's not something you *need*, but it is seriously amazing.

We have the Motorola set, and you can turn music on in the room from the monitor - this gets L back to sleep 50% of the time. Love it for buying us an extra 30 min - 1 hour on the weekends!!

You can also talk in it, which is helpful right now while L is young and one of is upstairs in L's room doing something and needs to ask the other one something on the second floor (if the monitor's on).

We actually love it so much that we travel with it... everywhere. Even if we're going over to Grandma & Grandpa's for the afternoon, we bring it with us for L's nap.

It's really helped us be able to know if her crying is the kind of crying that means she's going to fuss herself to sleep or if she's DONE. We can see if she's rolling around trying to get herself back to sleep, or standing up and throwing everything out of the crib (= DONE).

So, I can't recommend it enough!!

ETA: Also, I usually miss my baby after I put her down for bed, so I like to be able to look at her sleeping <3

I can't live without mine. At the beginning (we moved DD to her crib really early) it gave me piece of mind.. Through sleep training it was invaluable because I could tell whether DD was trying to go back to sleep or just playing. And now, at 13 mo, it is really valuable in being able to tell whether DD is really ready to get up or just adjusting/playing/making noise in her sleep.

@MamaBehr: Seriously. I spy on my oldest all the time. Wondering what he's doing in his room. And he knows too. He knows that I can see him b/c he'll ask to see his room on the monitor sometimes. And he'll tell me that he has to go pee or wants water, etc. and I'll talk back to him on it. The first time he heard me he was stunned. Like..."what the heck?"

LO is 6 months old, and we don't have a video monitor. I'd really like to have one, but it's doable without. It'd save me a few trips to check on her at night though!

Love the video monitor. It's the sound that wakes me up in the night to check on him, but I love being able to turn on the picture and peek at him whenever. It made tranisitoning him to his crib "easy" for us.

I absolutely love ours, and it was so important during sleep training. They'll grow out of all the baby stuff (including strollers and car seats) but the ability to spy on them when they are 12, priceless. :) Just kidding! But, seriously I love our video monitors. It gives me piece of mind on a nightly basis (and during nap too).

We didn't get ours until LO was 5 months and now at 7 months I couldn't imagine life without it! It really helps to know when he is just making noise in his sleep and we don't need to rush in.

I couldnt do without our video monitor. We use it together with the Angelcare because Im a paranoid freak. But I like being able to take a peek and see what she is doing when I hear a grunt or a noise, and to see if her cries are in her sleep or she has woken up and is groggy. Id have my head poking in her door 42 times a night if I didnt have the video monitor

We only have sound monitors too. I REALLY want a video monitor, but to be honest, i can't justify the cost. I only used audio with DS too. I don't think they even had video then! See, we've made it to 2012 with no video monitors :)

We went without until 8 months. Then she started getting limbs stuck in her crib and we got one.

We have breathable bumpers bit she manages to pull them down.

We were fine without one with #1 but my husband kept wanting to go in to check on him so I got one. Then we had another baby and needed two cameras so we bought the Motorola one bc it's expandable to 4 cameras and pan and tilts which I use all the time bc I mounted the camera closer to the crib so I can see my LO's face clearly wherever he's sleeping I his crib. It's awesome and I don't thinking could go back to just using an audio one anymore.

I love peeking at her without having to disturb her, but the reality is I need her noises to wake me up at night and not the picture on the monitor. I got a really good deal on my video monitor on Woot daily deals, otherwise we would have just gotten a sound monitor.
