Our realtor was really nice about it all and said this kind of thing happens more than people think (people look at a house but don't want to move on it until after it has been taken off the market). Another option is to see if the buyers are willing to let you rent the house until you find another house to purchase in which they would have to rent. It's not ideal (at all!) but if you didn't get any offers the previos time your place was on the market, if the offer is good, I would write in an extra 30 days to close, rent an apartment/house month to month and sell. You may have a few months of an awkward living situation, but it will probably be worth it in the long run. </p> <p>Even if you don't have any family nearby you can stay with for a few months, some apartments will offer month-to-month rent for special situations. Well, here we are 3 1/2 weeks from my due date and I get a call from our realtor earlier today that there is a family who really liked our house when it was on the market but were unable to make an offer at the time because their house hadn't sold yet. Well, they have now sold their house and want to know if we're open to selling ours despite it no longer being on the market. We have given the OK to explore this further but I am so nervous because we have not even looked for a new house ourselves. Are we insane? </p>
