we were in the same boat and we always got suite style hotel rooms so that DD could be in the other room. Recently though we took a trip to Disney and no way could afford a suite in the Disneyland hotel, I was totally afraid of how it was going to go with her sleeping in the same room. (She had just turned 2) It went great. We put the pnp in the corner and we laid down in the big bed at the same time, she never stood up or attempted to talk to us as all, just fell asleep.

We tried with and without pack and play and all of it was difficult. The only thing that works is staying up late and all going to bed at the same time. But that didn't start working until he was more like 2.5. Good luck :)

Ds is almost three and this past May was the first time we coslept successfully in a king bed while traveling for my bros wedding. We've always booked suites or rented two+ bedroom condos previously! This hotel was a one room suite and we just watched tv after ds went down and he slept through us getting in bed! Now he can cosleep when we travel!

A lot of these replies made me laugh, and I'm glad to hear we're not the only ones! On our trip, we'll be staying with family members in a small apartment a couple of days and in a hotel a few days. Im most worried about the family member part because I'm just sure she's going to keep everyone awake all night. I'm going to call the hotel tomorrow to see if we can upgrade to a suite...thanks for all the replies!

No co sleeping here with either kiddo. I just moved back to the bed after 4 months of sleeping near LO #2. With both of my boys, I slept on the couch near them in the early days. After that, I go back to the bed and leave the door open to hear them. This week, we changed LO #2's sleeping situation from an RNP to a PNP. He'll be in that until we move because we literally don't have room.

We can never sleep in the same room as my almost three year old. We had to try it one night (about a year ago) in a hotel because they gave us the wrong room and it was awful. We even tried to make it so that he couldn't see us, but he still whined and yelled much more than he would otherwise. We try to only budget for a suite or get a vacation rental house/condo that allows for him to have his own sleeping area.

When he was like 4-6 months old he would go sleep for like... 6-7am or so.

Now he is 18 months old and would never ever! When we go away we pay for a suite with a separate bedroom so he can be in a crib away from us.

Yup. Sucks. My main strategy is avoidance. I'm also totally jealous of people who can bring their LO into bed MOTN/early morning! But our bed is like ZOMGSOEXCITING. Apparently.

@Mrs Hedgehog: even though we have often had to go and sleep with lo in the bed in her room, we can't bring her into OUR bed in our room or its playtime. I think the fact that we are still in her room helps.

We only tried it once at 2 and it was a disaster. We got to the hotel at 10pm after a long car ride. LO had always transferred well but not this time. She screamed in bed for an hour. I think we slept an hour total that night. We haven't tried it since.

We are in the same boat and have never co-slept. We went to a hotel a few weeks ago and she slept in her pNp beside our bed. It was her worst sleep ever. She kept standing up and calling our names and trying to hold her dad's hand in the middle of the night (ok that was adorable). However, she certainly needs her own room to have a good night's sleep.

I could have written this word for word. Even when she is sick DD at she can't sleep in our bed because it has become a place to play. Sometimes I envy those parents who can bring their sick child I to bed with them to help them through the night.

We do cosleep on occasion- mostly for motn wake ups, not so much for falling asleep initially. On trips we still have her in a pack and play but often she ends up in bed at some point during the night if she wakes up and freaks out. It's nice that we have the option but I don't sleep well that way!

When we have to share a hotel room with her I have totally hidden in the bathroom until she's asleep in her pack and play. Even if she was in bed with me I think she would have been too excited at bedtime. Motn is a different ball game with her.

We have never co slept. Shared a hotel room with her for the first time at 2.5. She slept in the other bed. She took her normal 1-1.5hr to fall asleep, whether we were in the room or out on the balcony.

Never co slept finally was able to as needed around age 3. I prefer having my own space so having the problem while traveling isn't a big deal to me! We just used to do his pack n play in our hotel room or would do a hotel room that had a living and bedroom.

We've never co-slept with our LO. She's slept in the same hotel room as us...she just sleeps in a PNP. I'm hoping once she outgrows the PNP we can just get a room with two beds when we travel.

We didn't cosleep with either of my daughters. They both started off in our room for the first 3-4 months, but were in their own portable cribs. Then they moved to their big cribs in their rooms. As a result, neither of them had the ability to sleep in a bed with us when they had to - when we were traveling. At 4 yrs old, my older one can do it now, since we can explain/reason with her. But my 1.5 yr old still cannot. She just gets so excited/distracted when we are even in the room with her that she doesn't sleep. She needs to be in a room by herself. (We tested it out a couple of weeks ago on a short Tahoe trip.) This is usually just fine (they have their own rooms, we have a smaller bed and don't usually have any reason to have them sleeping with us) but it is going to be a problem during an upcoming 5-day trip where we're all going to have to be in the same room at night. I'm just curious if we are the only ones with this problem....and if anyone else has dealt with it, any advice? I realize that we created this problem ourselves by not ever having them sleep with us.
