I don't really think I fall into either category. I like to go to bed around 11PM and wake up at around 8 or 9AM. My husband is a night owl and likes to stay up until like 2-3AM and sleep until noon.

I HATE sleeping in. If I sleep in past 8am on a weekend, it makes me ragey. I feel like I'm wasting the day! Him on the other hand... if he's up before 9 (and even that is early!), he's pissy.

@septca: haha that's so funny because DH is the opposite - if i lie on the couch and fall asleep he's like "JUST GO TO SLEEP!" but he gets sad when i actually do. i agree i also don't mind getting up early, but i think i would if i stayed up with him ;) he used to just come to bed and watch tv there, which was great, but the baby is still in our room, so it's not worth risking waking her up.

@septca: We sort of do this too. We used to just go to be separately more, but it sort of bums me out to go to bed alone after my husband is already sleeping. Now we usually go to bed together when DH seems particularly intent on falling asleep on the couch (unlike your husband, the falling asleep on the couch annoys the crap out of me), which is usually around 10pm. Then we turn on a show on netflix and inevitably he falls asleep during the very first episode (which annoys me a little every night, but like, I can't REALLY be annoyed because he's just sleeping… lol). I finish the episode then read in bed until I am sleepy, usually around 12 or so. At least I get a lot of reading done?

DH has always been a night owl since I met him. Before LO arrived, I was a morning person. I loved getting up early, having tea and breakfast before he woke up. With LO, I've come to hate mornings since I've been doing morning routine pretty much since I finished my maternity leave. Seven days a week, I wake up early. I'm over early mornings.

DH is a crazy morning person. He naturally gets up around 5 every day - even when we're on vacation! I'm the opposite: I could sleep until 8:30/9 every day.

It's not really a big deal in day-to-day life, but it drives me crazy when we're on vacation. I mean, last time we were in Vegas he wanted to be in bed by 10 and then we'd be the only sober people walking the strip at 7 a.m. Super cool, right?!

@Pirouette: It's rough. I actually don't mind being the one who gets up early every day - I like the quiet time with DD and I know DH would be a bear if he were up, so it's just not worth it.

We have compromised on bedtime a bit - DH hates when I go upstairs to bed while he is reading or watching TV, but he is okay if I fall asleep on the couch. So that's what we do (I go upstairs around 9:30 and wash my face and change into my pjs, then we usually watch a show together).

I used to try to stay up later to accommodate him, but now that we have a baby, it's simply not an option since i know i'll be handling the early wakeup. it makes him so sad when i go to bed earlier but i need to if i'm going to function at all when LO wakes me up early! i do miss having that time with him, but I really need to sleep!

@GrapeCrush: I hope it works for us too! One area my DH is going to need to seriously improve on is falling back asleep. I can usually fall back asleep after getting up to pee or whatever pretty easily. But if something wakes my DH up in the middle of the night it usually takes him 1-2 hours to fall back asleep. He's going to need to adapt to survive with a baby! lol

@Mrs tartan: ohhhhh the days of sleeping past noon lol. I was like that all through school. On weekends I could easily sleep until 1-2pm. I think working has adapted me a little bit. I'm now pretty happy to get up around 9, and 10 is definitely sleeping in. Just don't ask me to get up at 6 or 7 please.

I think I'm both a morning person AND a night owl. When it's time to get up in the morning, I am up! I like to get the day started and things done. No matter how late I stay up the night before, I can get myself up in the mornings and get going. I also stay up late too... I prefer to sleep early, but love the alone time I get at night.

@Mae: that's basically what my DH and I did when our kids were born. he'd stay up late/do all night wakeups until 1-2am, and I'd get anything after that/get up with LO in the morning because I can get up easily/go back down easily, but can't stay awake at night/late for anything!

We're not like, the morning-est of morning people--we get up around 7 during the week but would happily sleep until like 9 on our own devices--but we definitely are NOT night owls. Lately we've been going to bed around 10, though some of that is my pregnancy fatigue--we used to go to bed more like at 11.
