I am a night owl (I also work night shift!). DH is NOT a night owl and loves to get up early. DS is somewhat of a night owl and DD hasn't decided yet :)

I'm a night owl and have always survived on very little sleep - DS is the same :/ haha
I go to bed at 12:30/1am and have to be at work before 8am, average 5-6 hours sleep. I wish I could sleep longer, I just can't.

@shopaholic: we're in the same boat; dh's Job has only fueled out night owlyness. He works past 10 3x a week.

Yes and I have been since I was a little girl. I totally get it from my mom. She still will stay up until 7am and then sleep until mid afternoon.

I go to bed between 12-2am. It's been hard as lately DS is waking up 3x from 2-6am so essentially I've been getting no sleep. He's not a night owl but also not early morning- he'll sleep 7:30pm to 8am.

I am definitely a night owl and hubs is an early bird. I am curious about how this will translate for our LO.

Very interesting! My husband and I sure don't sleep early, that's for sure! We get to bed closer to midnight most nights. It's terrible. Our boys goes to bed between 9-10:30 PM depending on the evening. But they also wake up later (8-9AM) which works okay for me. My 3-year-old's preschool doesn't' start until 9:30 AM anyway and they aren't strict about drop off so we usually roll in between 9:30-9:45AM. Kind of bad but, I swear, my son always seems to find a way for us to be late - no matter how early I start getting us ready to leave the house. Anyway, so I guess our kids are just like us too!

Yes, yes, and yes! I got the boy down before 9pm tonight, which I consider a huge victory.

If he had it his way, he would still be rolling trucks around on the floor at 11pm! Unfortunately that doesn't mesh well with my best working times of 9-11pm, so we have been working on earlier bedtimes.

Totally a night owl. If I don't have something keeping me on a schedule I stay up all night. DH is the same way.

LOis too sporadic to tell if he's a night owl yet.

@shopaholic: It was definitely a brutal change for me! I was able to transition, but a lot of my productivity went out the door with it... I just get so much more done at night than during the day!

@mrbee: Thanks for that link! May need to get DH to read it while he is home on Paternity Leave! It's so hard to convince him he needs to change his lifelong pattern though, especially since he typically works past 9pm every night. So if we don't stay up together, we don't get that much time together. I think he will be in for a rude and shocking change once his sleeping in past noon on weekend days are over. :/

I've always been a night owl, but DH is not. He has been a huge help in shifting my circadian rhythm to better fit our daily life. LO seems to be an early to bed, early to rise kind of girl so far. She's usually ready for bed at 7-7:30 and up at 6:30-7.

I'd say I'm average, going to bed between 10-11. DH, on weekends and when he is on second shift stays up til 2-3am! LO is still pretty young and is currently in bed by 7:30, but that may change.

@shopaholic: I blogged a while ago about how you can shift your circadian rhythms away from being a night owl!
http://www.hellobee.com/2012/03/22/how-to-cure-mommy-or-daddy-insomnia/

I gotta follow my own advice and get Charlie outside faster, so he can get sunlight first thing in the morning!!

We are night owls for sure, with DH being the worst! He can stay up past 3 or 4am on any given night. I usually stay up till around 2am (pre-pregnancy) and still past midnight most nights. @mrbee: The problem with having "night owls" as a LO is that they will most likely always be LATE for school and hate waking up! At least, this was in our cases, especially for me (and for work too!) We are more of the last ones in, last ones out type of people.

My husband actually works 2nd shift. So he doesn't get home from work until around 2am. I suffer from insomnia, so I am also a night owl. I would say that most nights I'm still awake when DH gets home from work.

Our oldest is not a night owl. Asleep by 8pm and up by 7am. The littlest one, usually sleeps from 10pm to 9am (waking up to nurse still), this past weekend our oldest stayed at his Grandma's house and it was fantastic. The rest of us rolled out of bed at 10:30 am :)

Definitely, we're all night owls. DS goes to bed between 10-10:30 and usually gets up around 9. I know when he's older we'll have to pull it back but it works well for all of us now.

I was talking to a child psychologist about Charlie's recent problems falling asleep (they've gotten much better since!), and he kind of blew my mind.

He said that it's not unusual that toddlers have their own circadian rhythms. So if mom and dad are both night owls (and we are!), it's possible that a toddler like Charlie is a night owl too!

Oh my gosh, it was like a lightbulb went off over my head when he said that! Charlie is totally a night owl... since I discovered that, I've been much more willing to let him go to bed a bit later and wake up a bit later. It's really helped a lot!
