I am an over thinker when it comes to trivial things. I can get myself in a tizzy over where to eat dinner! :silly:

My husband is the opposite. He takes the little things in stride, but overthinks everything else! We have only ever had a handful of "fights" (if you can even call them that) because of it! I think we balance each other out pretty well.

Yes, I am a big time over thinker but I've tried to embrace that about myself. I think over thinking isnt so bad but I try to avoid over-worrying. I've found that since becoming a mom I have much less time and energy for that stress. A pleasant surprise for me.

Oh my goodness. I can't believe I typed all that on my phone! As you can tell, this is a topic that is important to me because I have struggled with it so much. It's nice to know there are things I can do to cope with it.

Ummmmm....yeah I am quite fluent in it. I also have a talent for overthinking overthinking overthinking. The purpose is to have a sense of control but it never does that, I actually end up feeling less powerful in the end. I once had a previous therapist call it "mental masturbation." A little graphic but rings pretty true.

In my current therapy, I have been slowly yet surely working on mindfulness..."being" wholeheartedly in the moment with whatever joy or discomfort it might bring. It makes sense because this moment is truly all we have and if we are constantly in our heads all the time, we are robbing ourselves of peace, joy and the energy it takes to think so much. Mindfulness is actually gaining lots of recognition lately because they have seen how it can be "healing" to all kinds of groups (I believe one study was with NFL players.)
When I am feeling particularly stressed/ over thinking, I like to watch one of many guided imagery videos on YouTube. Now, I am not usually a meditation kind of gal but guided imagery is so different. You listen and imagine you are in a forest, on the beach, etc. May sound lame but when I am super stressed at work, it is nice to find peace. It helps you to get back to the moment and out of your head.
Another thing I found helpful was this video called "The Art of Vulnerability." I just stumbled upon it yesterday and had a lot of aha moments about why I like to be in control so much. I really wish I had watched it a lot sooner but I kept putting it off because its 20 minutes http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iCvmsMzlF7o

Like the question says - are you an overthinker? Does it have any other affects on besides driving you batty?

I am pretty sure that this is why I stress over every.little.thing in my life, therefore causing a lot more issues, mentally. After years of knowing this, I still don't know how to control it properly.
