My oldest nephew is 24 and the youngest niece is 14. Only one lives in the same state. However I'm now an aunt to My SIL's 6 month old - only 5 months older than our LO and they live closely. I fully expect to be very involved in his life. Being across the country changed things. They text me (the older ones from their ipads, the younger ones from their mom's phone) and ask me when I'm coming to see them constantly. When I'm there, they cry over who gets to sit next to me at dinner and pile on top of DH and I if we sit down to watch TV. And the 2 year old learned my name last time I was home.</p> <p>I'm not as close with my sister's kids, but I'm also not as close with my sister. I mean, I give them gifts and they hug me hello and goodbye, but they're not as clingy and lovey as my brother's.</p> <p>ETA: Oh, and DH has a niece and nephew, but they were pretty grown when we got married (his nephew is in his 20s and his niece is in high school). My brother has a daughter a year younger than my LO so she's 1.5 and I think I've seen her 4 times since she was born and we face time a lot. They were just down visiting and my neice and my daughter LOVE each other. I have 3 nephews and a niece and we are very close to them. We FaceTime, text, etc. they live 8 hours away and constantly want to come visit. When we go visit we never take advantage of free babysitting because we'd rather spend time with them. We've also flown them up for a week over the summer when my brothers' schedules are too packed. Hope to coordinate and budget for that this summer as well.<br /> DH has two nieces and we're not as close because BIL is divorced and his ex has custody. However, DH's brother has refused contact. Our niece is two years old (and for a while was even attending daycare in the same building where my DH works), but we still haven't met her.
