Not really but kinda. My boss is a 50 year old man but he's really supportive. As long as I approach things in a very matter-of-fact way, it's great. When I told him that I wanted to pump when I came back, his reply was to be wholly supportive. His assistant is a girl my age, and she and I have both had some seriously TMI conversations, made especially funny by the fact that my husband comes over at the most random of times (like Wednesday when we were discussing charting to avoid pregnancy and disliking birth control). DH has gotten good at tuning us girls out.

I have a great boss, it's just the two of us in the office too. I don't tell him everything, but he listens to me go on and on about personal things. He does the same thing too.
I haven't told him about the pregnancy yet, it means I have to leave my job and that makes me nervous.

I'm lucky insofar as my boss is the mother of three girls, aged roughly 2 years, 4 years, and 6 years old, so she's often given me good advice about parenting. The downside is that while most of her advice is useful for my wife as mum, it's sometimes not so useful for me as dad. Nevertheless, I'm very happy not only that I can talk to her about things, but that she's happy to share her experiences.

I got a new boss this summer, so nope. He doesn't ever give me a vibe he wants to talk personal stuff when I try too. My old boss, all the time!

I tell him things only on a need to know basis and if it will interrupt my work. For example I let him know my daughter was having eating issues and we would be having more doctor's appointments than usual for us to figure it out. He wished us luck and was supportive, but I did it for the purpose of me missing work and letting him know it was for a good reason.

Yep. Although, really, he's more DH's boss since I only work during the busy parts of the year. But he's like the dad I never had and we've been working for him a couple of years now and have outlasted several other employees. Of course, we go to the same church and have a lot in common, so yeah, suffice it to say, we're pretty close. He and DH talk about a lot of stuff and we probably know more about what's going on in his marriage (not too good) then his own kid does.

For the most part I am. My life is so hectic with medical appointments for me and dh that if anyone else came in as a supervisor they would think I was crazy! She is super supportive & only twice in 5 years have I been denied time off. That was during the state audit so I was okay with it.

Yeah, I tell her all sorts of stuff. All the women in my department are pretty gossipy and talkative, so we all love to talk about our issues! lol!

All the time. (Well, not ALL the time, but a lot). My boss has two kids, the younger is only 3 months older than my LO so we talk about baby stuff all the time and I get all her hand-me-downs.
I'll tell her about my current pregnancy as soon as it's confirmed by the OB in a couple weeks.

Yes, we're extremely close in our department. I have several layers of bosses and have no qualms about telling the first two everything (I'm an over-sharer anyway), but not my top-boss, who's a bit more removed. They were actually some of the first people I told about the pregnancy!

@matador84: My old boss was like that. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't tell him of my infertility issues but if it came down to it, I would feel more comfortable telling him than my current boss. It's so weird.

On occasion. I am pretty close to my boss. It's a guy and I will talk to him about certain things but not others. He doesn't have kids so I won't talk to him about breastfeeding and stuff like that...I think it would freak him out!

My relationship with my boss is mostly work related. I've mentioned personal issues with my DH's health but I can't seem to read her sometimes. I feel like she doesn't care. I mean she will say she's sorry but some of the body language she gives off makes it seem like she doesn't.

So because of that I keep things strictly work related.
