since we switched him to an in-home, he just has one teacher, so we'll probably just give her a bonus cash gift.

@.twist.: That is exactly how I would feel if we were still at the center. His classroom had about six or seven teachers? That is a lot of people to buy for! I don't know what we would have done - $5 coffee gift cards?

I do something small--very small. I think last year, it was a $15 gift card to Dunkin Donuts with a Christmas card and a picture of LO, because there was a DD right next to the daycare. The rest of the teachers in the room just got the card.

My town is kind of insane about daycare gifts but I'm not buying into it. My parents owned a large preschool for 12 years and I've been a (regular, not daycare) teacher for 12 years and people do not expect lavish gifts--or gifts at all, really although small things are appreciated. In my local mommy group, people started a thread on daycare teachers and people were listing $100 gift cards for their LOs 3 main teachers, or $25 gifts cards for all 8 teachers in a room. Someone else asked if year end bonuses are expected in a daycare situation. Um...what? You aren't privately employing the teachers at a daycare--you don't give year end bonuses!

@matador84: I saw this really cute idea on Pinterest. It's a printable tag for "fleece" Navidad. Get it? HAHA. anyway I picked up on Saturday two 2 packs of holiday fleece blankets at Joann Fabrics for like $6 per pack ! I plan to include the tag and a gc. Originally they're as low as $19.99 each so with a 50% coupon you can get each blanket for $5 each! Then include a small gc or baked goods?

Another cute idea I saw and wished I saw before is buying nail polish and a printable tag that says "for your mistle*toe*"! I thought that was so cute with some festive colors. That would be super inexpensive.

We've got four mains to buy for this year so I plan to do that for each teacher with a gc. Then some baked goods for each class for all the main teacher plus floaters that help.

LO goes to a home daycare so there's only one person to buy for. I'm thinking a gift card to Target and some of the homemade marshmallows and hot chocolate mix i'm putting together this weekend.

LO has 2 main teachers and 2 other teachers that are there at the end of the day when they combine classrooms. I think we're going to do a gift card for everyone, but slightly more for the main teachers.

Side question: What would be a good gift card for a 25 year old? Should I go with Target?

@matador84: We're moving so I want to do something but we also do not have my $ to go around. Moving is so expensive! Anyway, I'll do a joint goodbye/holiday gift, probably $10 gifts cards (4 teachers) and also bring a big box of these amazing french pastries from a bakery in our neighborhood.

Last year we did $10 gift cards and chocolates.

I will probably do a gift card. When I was teaching, I used to get a ton of soaps and lotions and it just wasn't my preference.

I know 2 of them don't have a car so I'll probably just stick with a Target or WM (ugh) gift card since they have to ride bus to get where they need to go.

Everything I've heard from teachers is that they prefer gift cards over anything else, even if it's a smaller amount. I was planning on doing a gc to Target or Starbucks with an insulated cup I can get at cost from work.

Yes - we're probably going to go with a plate of cookies or a box of chocolate though. There's a pretty large staff, and frankly, the daycare workers at DD's school are hard to buy for. Most of the girls are in different socio/economic circles, and I would literally have NO idea what to buy them. I'd rather get them something yummy that they will enjoy, then something they won't ever use.

Last year I did massages for 2 teachers, it was pricey. This year with a small budget (baby #2 coming soon and unpaid maternity leave to think about) I bought cute functional baskets at IKEA and filled it full of Trader Joes treats. I think it turned out adorable and it can be done cheap. (I threw in a "nicer" bottle of wine so it was around $35/person) but easily could have kept it under 15-20 a person.

We are – but LO only has 2 teachers and then 1 sub/floating teacher she is close to.

I got all 3 Target gift cards and then am also getting them some chocolates and a gift that is one of their interests (i.e., one teacher has a parrot who is her baby and so I got some parrot treats and toys, another loves the Beatles so I bought her a little Beatles bag, etc.)

Maybe something from Bath and Body Works? They have good deals this time of year. And they have a great return policy if they don't like the scents you choose...
ETA: I just looked at the website and the Holiday products are buy three get three free right now.

Honestly, I can't afford to do what a lot of parents are ( orseem to be) doing. :( It's made me feel kind of shitty. Our daycare costs are going up almost $100 dollars in January and I just seriously don't have the extra moola. So, we got the "staff" a very large box of chocolate. I don't know if we'll be scoffed at, but... that's all I got!

Following!

Now with 2 kids in daycare and many teachers/floaters/staff.. it's really adding up. I usually do giftcards and something small (ornament) and/or store-bought baked goods with those large to-go Starbucks coffee dispensers. I've also done "nicer" boxed pastries/cupcakes like Sprinkles, cronuts, macarons and those were a big hit since not a "regular" treat.

I think $10 is a good amount for Starbucks cards and you could just make a cute card with a handwritten note for each?
