I remember being so confused at first and then one day, they truly felt "deflated." I'd day pump as long as you can (40max - I do 30ish), then hand express after. Once that slows down...you're done.

I've never seemed empty in that I always have enough for LO, but when I pump I barely get anything, so I definitely wonder about my emptiness then!

@T.H.O.U.: Yes, he primarily nurses (I only pump a few times a day). I usually have him nurse first and pump after.

Never empty. Does your LO nurse at all? You could latch him after pumping because the baby will get more then the pump.

I'm never 100% empty, it usually after I pump I'm 99% done.

I heard the breast described as a leaky faucet - there's always more. I would consider myself "empty" when my breasts get really soft.

I am never empty. My LO only nurses for 3-5 minutes and I pump for 30 minutes.

I just got over mastitis, and I'm trying to prevent a recurrence by making sure I nurse/pump until I'm empty. It seems like I'm never really empty though! I nurse, then pump, and I keep getting milk everytime I remove the pump and put it back on. It's like I have a letdown everytime I stop pumping and restart minutes later. Is this normal? How do you know when you're empty?
