We won't. We both think they are kind of creepy! I also like to have some surprise of what she will look like, movements, etc when she is born :) And regular ultrasounds let you see their movements/actions and profiles, which I love

I was against getting one because I think they look creepy. But at my 20wk anatomy scan, the tech did 3D and 4D (included with the normal scan covered by insurance) and I guess when it's your little bambino/a it doesn't seem as creepy. It was nice to watch her move in real time, yawn, and try to cover her face to sleep.

We're doing another one in January to reconfirm the sex and so that my mom and sister can see the baby.

I'm shocked that so many insurance carriers cover something that's elective.

Sadly that is not an option for us but we do get to do a 3D which I am so excited for because it was so much fun being able to see facial features of our first LO before she was born, like the fact she would has my nose :)

my OB and my high risk dr did them at every appt, so I got them at least one a month. The earliest was at 12 weeks. That was kind of alien looking but still awesome. My insurance covered them 100% except for a one-time copay

So the 4D will have to be a 20 weeks. Luckily its covered (80%) but my insurance... so thats fun! my 20 weeks falls between Christmas and New Years, talk about a great way to end the year :D

I didn't. I love them, I think they're awesome, but we were pretty broke. And I figured we'd see the baby in a few months anyway... so I'd just have to wait :(

We didn't get one because it felt more practical to put that money towards baby gear. And I didn't want to get any more ultrasounds than medically necessary.

I got one at 28 weeks, it was weird, and we only saw the face because we weren't finding out the sex. The tech told me to avoid caffeine to make sure the amniotic fluid was clear.

At our 20 week appointment, the baby was in an awkward position so the Doctor was only able to tell us with 90% certainty that our baby was girl. Well, that remaining 10% was not sitting well with us so we scheduled a 4D ultrasound the following week to confirm that it was.

The still photos of other people's kids do look creepy to me but my mommy eyes thought the ones of our LO were uber-cute (in an alien-ish way). Plus, the 4th dimension is 'time' and it's really cool to see your baby move in real time. Highly recommend it if you can afford it (since it's usually not covered by insurance). Luckily, we found an independent provider that only charged $75.

I find the images from the 3d/4d ultrasounds super creepy as well, and my DH is pretty practical, so even if I wanted one, I would have trouble convincing him it is worthwhile.

I'm totally getting one! We have to wait until December, though. The local place that does them say to wait until you're at least 26 weeks for the best pictures.

I am definitely considering it. I'm going to try to have a waterbirth, so no epidural ( if i can take it! ) and i think it'll help me focus on her more, rather than the pain.

If my insurance covers it, I'm definitely going to get it. My husband thinks its really creepy, too. So if I get it, only I will see it. I'm sure if he saw it, it would probably give him alien baby nightmares. lol

I am so glad I'm not the only one who is creeped out by the 4D ultrasounds. I wouldn't mind waiting till my baby is born to see their face... If there is a need to get one then we would but I'm not sure I really need to see that.

I don't think I'll know until I have to make the choice, but honestly when I have looked at the 4D ultrasounds of others I have been a little creeped out! So alien-looking. I also feel like we probably wouldn't be able to tell what the baby looked like--except very generally....I usually think new babies look like babies, pretty much--not like their parents or anyone. I guess we'll see when the time comes, if we decide to do that.

I got a 4d ultrasound with Charlie around 30 weeks, and I loved it. I took my mom and aunt who were visiting at the time, and they had never seen an ultrasound before so of course they were riveted. It was definitely worth it for me... we saw Charlie blinking, smiling, yawning... it was awesome!

With this second baby though, no 4d ultrasound.

Are you planning on getting a 4d ultrasound?
