My family is the burying type, our deceased (human or animal) go into the ground (well except my parents who have donated their bodies to science). My husband's family is the cremating type where you keep them in an urn on the mantel. When I'm dead my spirit will be gone and my body will be just a shell. I don't see the need to have it in a box. DH's mom was buried and we go to visit her grave each year on the anniversary of when she died. It's nice to be in a place where she "is," and we feel more connected to her in that place, knowing that she is buried there. I friend of mine died very recently, so this has been a frequent topic of conversation amongst our friends and one of them told me you can have your ashes put in pencils or even into fireworks. I asked DH if he dies first if I can make him into a diamond so I can keep him with me all the time &amp; he was good with that. If I go first, cremation, then when he goes our ashes can be mixed up. I'm too clostrophobic to be burried. Cremation just freaks me out, I don't want to be burned. I think it's especially a sensitive topic for me because I'm Jewish and many of my relatives died in the Holocaust, I'm sure some from the gas chambers.
