I'm somewhere between Martyr Mom and asking constantly for help. I actually wish I didn't even have to ask. I wish he would see that dinner needs to be started and just do it. He's getting a bit better at it.

@FutureMrsMcK: same! mommy martyr over here as well...I find myself getting so frustrated that DH doesn't just realize that certain things need to be done (like walking by a sink full of dirty dishes without putting them in the dishwasher, or even worse, ADDING to a pile of dirty dishes--or seeing me put the dishes in the dishwasher, and then putting his bowl in the sink! WTF?!) but he is generally good about helping if I ask. I just need to do that more often but as a SAHM I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself to do everything myself.

Yes. I ask for help allllll the time. I don't know what I'd do without my husband sometimes, especially since the birth of our LO. I've been relying on him a lot.

I'm getting better at this. I learned a lot of passive aggressive behaviour from my own mother who never directly says what she wants but rather guilt trips you into doing things. I know if I ask DH directly to help me he will - but I fall into the martyr trap easily, struggling on and seething because he should "see" I need help....

What can be hard is accepting that when I ask him to do something it will get done in his own sweet time. I don't want to ask repeatedly.... Its tough.

I am good about asking, but he is excellent about declining. He rarely washes the dishes or takes out the trash. I ask him to pitch in on those tasks the most.

Not really. I have a bad streak of Martyr Mom, and even though I know DH would be perfectly happy to help I'll convince myself/insist that I can do it myself, and then mentally grumble at how he doesn't help more...and then mentally slap myself...like he's supposed to be able to read my mind?

I'm working on it, though. Right now it's small things...I'll nudge him to get up with the babe for his first wake-up so I can get an extra hour or two of sleep (though I still do the night ones) or ask him to do dishes or give E a bath or something.

Parenting: yes
Household: yes & no. If its something he can do well, I ask. But many times its one of those "if you want something done right..." situations.
Dh asks but he usually feels bad asking me since I'm so busy so he will try on his own for a long time before asking.

If I need time to get some work-y work done, I'm pretty good about asking Mrs. Bee for help watching the kids so I can get it done.

I'm not so good at asking for help with the house... but if I'm overwhelmed with one of the chores I'm responsible with, then usually we both will dedicate an evening to cleaning together. I should be better about explicitly asking for help though... it's not hard for me to ask, but it just doesn't occur to me! Gotta work on that.

Are you good at asking for help from your SO when you need it?
