Sometimes I'd rather small talk and have casual acquaintences because it's less pressure to hang out or commit. I have my core group of girlfriends that I'm super close to (whenever I need closeness) but sometimes it's fun to hang out with just casual friends when you want to go out and talk about nothing. As long as it's pretty mutually understood that we're just casual friends, I think it's fun and refreshing. I have had the same group of friends for years and know I can trust and confide in them. When in situations where I'm around acquaintances such as weddings or birthday parties I always feel a little awkward and never know what the right thing is to say! Also, I find it hard to draw a line in the sand on how far to 'let them in' to get to know me which can be confusing.
