Good one!

Today, we waited at the dealership for an oil change, and another child took a toy DS had been playing with so just as the tears welled up in his eyes and his lower lip curled, I asked him if he could find me the perfect mom car in the show room. He nodded yes and swallowed back the tantrum, after he was calm I explained the whole sharing thing to him (it's a daily talk we have). That was an easy one because he's a boy and he really loves all cars...I'm not so lucky all the time.

LO hates it when i put her on her back to change her diaper. As soon as she looks like she's going to start crying, i go "Ahhhh!!" in a sing-songy voice with wide eyes and she stops! It's really about making a loud noise before she does. :)

Great trick with Charlie!

Nice idea, I will have to file that one away for later!

My almost one-year-old can usually be distracted by getting him to clap, offering him a puffy, or asking for a high five. He only has command of a handful of words right now- when he it's more verbal, I'll have to try things like that!

Right now the only thing that keeps her focused while nursing is if I sing to her and rub her back while she eats. She used to be such a champ but lately she's a total lookie-loo.

That's a good one. I'm going to steal that from you! Distraction works if I can of think of someone really good. But I find that getting down to his level and talking to him calmly helps as well.

Anything that works is golden! LO gets a paci or cuddled when getting upset and that works so far.

@mrbee: That's awesome! I don't think it's dumb if it works!

She's only 5.5 months old but a lot of times I can calm her down if I sing one of her favorite songs.

Sometimes Charlie is mid tantrum, and I'm able to "save" him from going over the edge. For example tonight Charlie was getting all worked up and so I told him, "Charlie! Charlie! I need your help! Can you scratch my eyebrow for me??"

And he said, "Like this?" And as he scratched my eyebrow, I said, "Wow, you listened to me so well and scratched my eyebrow perfectly!"

Haha such a dumb little trick, right? But I was happy to sidestep a tantrum and get him to bed with my sanity intact.
