Newborn through 4 months, I didn't let her cry at all. As she got older, she learned to whine vs cry etc so I will ignore a whine if she is fighting sleep for instance. My husband and I generally narrate her cries and laugh about it. Sometimes when we're driving we forget she's even crying until we realize she stopped at some point. </p> <p>It really, really doesn't bother me when older kids cry. I was a teacher before having our daughter so I dealt with a lot of kids crying when they were mad or got in trouble. Crying gets you nowhere with me. Sometimes both are crying at the same time and I will have to get to who needs me the most and if it's my oldest needing to pee/poop then he comes first. He has many different cries - if he cries his hurt, rejected or in pain cry I can never ignore him! But if he cries his I want attention, fighting sleep or angry/tantrum cry it's a lot easier to ignore. But this is very recent haha! I could never ignore him before.
