I never was...I would push myself nonstop until eventually I was so worn down that I got sick. Since having my daughter I'm much better about it. I understand what my limits are and make sure to get enough sleep.

@youboots: Yuuup, exactly! I don't see the need to go til you can't anymore. If I'm done with my chores, I'm gonna take it easy!

Nope. I'm currently exhausted from a week long bad sinus infection. I stayed home to work far too many days this week because I feel like crap. My parents even gave me money for a haircut because I just haven't gone and gotten one in forever. I need some healthy me time lately.

I think of self care being everything from stuff like working out, getting hair cuts, keeping your nails in shape, to taking care of your teeth (regular visits, lots of flossing), having regular health checkups, seeing a dermatologist for skin cancer checks, taking care of your weight for health reasons, sleeping enough, etc.

I pretty much such across the board at this point.

@ineebee: I could have written this. It helps that the babe takes long afternoon naps, and I usually get chores done before she wakes up.

Yes, and it's been a long road. I entered adulthood having gained 60 pounds (50% of my healthy weight), stopped all forms of exercise and movement, and just in a miserable place in my life. 14 years later I'm at a good weight, I know how much exercise I need to feel strong and happy, I know how I need to conduct my life on a daily basis and on a longer timeframe to be happy and fulfilled.

Now, I have an 8 month old and a four year old, so it doesn't always happen. But I try really, really hard. I went my whole life not knowing how to take care of myself, so I'm pretty militant about it now.

Nope, I'm horrible at it. I'm really trying to focus on doing things that I want to lately though. But it's hard, I normally wait till DD is asleep at the end of the night, and even then I have to quick do a load of dishes, then I get me time. A lot of the times I'm way to exhausted to want to do anything else. So I just watch TV :-(

No, not really. I like to run myself right into the ground and I don't tend to rest when I don't feel well.

I think I'm okay with it. I make time to exercise, and I go to bed at a reasonable time to get enough sleep. My DH is pretty good about watching the kids, so I can get some alone time. Although, he always expects me to return the favor. I feel like our weekends often become us taking turns watching the kids instead of hanging out as a family.

I'm not great at it, the only thing I do is sleeping at 10 to make sure I get 8 hours, interrupted or not!

Kind of? My self care is working out. I love it. I'm so happy when I get to BUT I really struggle with factoring in the physical load of other parts of my day/week and taking a break to do something else like read or something a few times a week. It's really hard.

with my newborn the past 8 weeks i have not been at all. after going to a movie and shopping bymyself with my newborn yesterday in the same clothes i wear to bum around the house with no makeup and hair tied in pony tail - i decided i need to get myself back together and start working on self-care again.

Yes. I actively make time for myself whether it's through sports or hobbies/taking night classes. Taking care of myself helps me take care of others.

I am terrible at it... I tend to just try and push myself until my body falls apart and I get sick, and I'm forced to rest for a while. I've been trying to break the pattern lately, but it is hard for me! I just don't get much done the "normal" way...
