I always find it super interesting when there is a younger couple with kids who sells everything they own, packs up, and moves to some exotic location where they love the lifestyle, like the Seychelles or Vanuatu or wherever. I had some acquaintances who did something similar, decided to leave successful careers in the U.S. and started a craft brewing company in Southeast Asia. I don't think I'd ever have the nerve to do it - I like my life here and living in the U.S. offers lots and lots of advantages, plus if I up and left my career to do something like that there'd be no getting it back if I didn't like the new life, in other words, it seems pretty irreversible. But somehow we've been here for 8 years and counting! The longer we stay, the harder it is to think about leaving but our apartment is small (750 sq ft) and the cost of living is exorbitant. If/when we do move, it will either be to a northern suburb or NYC (Westchester or Rockland counties) or somewhere in New England, preferably Western Massachusetts (Northhampton/Springfield). DH and I always planned to move close to the water but when we outgrew our condo DH's job was (and still is) too far from the coast. We are only 30 minutes away but I grew up right on the water and crave the sea breeze all summer. Too expensive, schools are competitive and/or expensive, we have dogs and really need a yard. The job market for my field is really difficult and you have to go wherever you find a job (if you're lucky...) I grew up in a Midwestern college town and it'd be my dream to move back! Friendlier neighborhoods, amazing public schools, muuuuch lower col, my family is there.... Plus the university there is amazing so it'd be a dream job too. We live on 20 acres and have done tons of work with landscaping and planting (tons!) of trees. It's 30 minutes to SF, the weather's great (though I don't love the crazy summer heat), the people are nice, the access to hiking/camping/outdoor activities is great. But we're more at home in a more urban/liberal environment. I lived for a few years in England/Europe and still have some very dear friends there.
