Even though my growth scan yesterday was fine and my belly is measuring on track, my OB still wants growth scans every 2 weeks. Thinking of this thread, I asked her if it was b/c of my past hx of having small babies or because of my age. She said both? I think it's overkill, but if a little extra monitoring helps to ensure he gets here safely, I'm ok with that.

Nothing special so far with AMA except for the Harmony test. But I'm barely AMA (I'll be 35 when I deliver) and so the only special treatment I've gotten is a chuckle from the midwives when they get to call me an "elderly" pregnant lady.

I was AMA with my second kiddo born when I was 35. Being AMA wasn't a big deal, just getting the Materni21 test. I got extra monitoring in the final weeks because my blood pressure was starting to rise too high. I had one appointment turn into a visit to triage for monitoring about a week before he was born. After that night in triage, we scheduled an induction. DS #2 had other ideas and arrived a few days before it.

Not really. I had a low lying placenta at my anatomy scan, and had a follow up at 28 weeks. The 28 week scan showed the placenta had moved, but the baby was measuring huge, so I had two more growth scans for that. I did not have any NSTs or BPPs (I did for my first non-AMA pregnancy, because of borderline high blood pressure). I was induced at 39 weeks because of suspected large size (baby was 8 lb 7 oz at 39 weeks). NIPT was offered as an optional test both times. My AMA pregnancy, overall, was much healthier than my non-AMA pregnancy.

I did but I think it was bc of AMA and that I had borderline/high blood pressure. Not sure I would have had it if I was just AMA

Yes, I had extra appointments for my third because of GD and I guess age. I had even more monitoring when a complete previa was detected at 17 weeks.

I had my second at age 36 (a week before my 37th birthday) and other than the Materniti21, I did not have any extra monitoring due to age. I had an SCH as the beginning and low amniotic fluid at the end, both of which resulted in extra scans, but those were only because of those very specific conditions existing.

I was AMA with my second (36) and did have to have extra monitoring but it was because the baby had a small cyst in his liver, so I was an MFM every month for ultrasounds to track it... they said that just because I was 36 didn't necessarily mean i would need extra monitoring as my previous pregnancy and birth had gone OK.

I was AMA with my second DS. They did additional monitoring as I had to have scar tissue removed from my uterus to get pregnant and have DS2 stick. They were worried about placenta accreta, so I received one ultrasound/month from MFM. I had a repeat C-section at 39+4.

I didn't get that far due to mc but as I was 35 for this last one she mentioned nst and such in 3rd tri in addition to materniti21. Prior pregnancy with same ob I had no ultrasounds after anatomy scan.

I was AMA for my last pregnancy. I delivered when I was 35. I had to take the GD test way more times than I wanted to and I had a lot more ultrasounds than normal. Like every appt after 35 weeks or so. I also had the Maternity 21 test.

I was 35/36 for my second pregnancy and was considered high risk due to having placenta previa. I was monitored very closely- like an ultrasound every 2-3 weeks. I ended up getting off bedrest and going into labor. I delivered at 38.5 weeks.

It was a stark contrast to my midwife, easy first pregnancy at the age of 32/33. I think I had 3 ultrasounds (8, 12, and 20 weeks).

Not until the end. They wanted me to have weekly NSTs from 36w until delivery. They were, however, willing to let me go to 42 weeks as long as the NSTs were fine.

ETA: And additional prenatal genetic testing (the MaterniT21) that they recommended but didn't require; we opted to do it, which meant we found out gender at 13 weeks!

I had several additional ultrasounds and some blood tests during my AMA pregnancy. They were expensive, not covered by insurance, and I think I'd opt out of the monitoring after standard testing revealed no increased risk of chromosomal disorders if I were doing it over again.

Interestingly, when I was pregnant, I was living abroad and they considered AMA to begin at 40. I delivered when I was 35 and there was no special monitoring offered, unless I was considered to be high risk, which I wasn't, even with family history.

@Banana330: According to both my OB and my maternal fetal medicine doctor, anything over 35 is considered "geriatric pregnancy" -- nicely put, Advanced Maternal Age. Neither of them get "jazzed" about AMA until after 40. Maybe it's different in Canada, though.

I was AMA but didn't have any extra monitoring until I developed excess fluid in my third trimester. Then I had weekly ultrasounds at the MFM doctor (in addition to my regular weekly OBGYN appointments) until the fluid level was back to normal. I did have the MaterniT21 test done, but that was my decision. I ended up being induced at 39 weeks due to pre-eclampsia, but that was unrelated to my age. Otherwise, they were going to let me go to 41 weeks before inducing.

I was AMA and Gestational Diabetic for both of my pregnancies (37 and 40). I had additional ultrasounds and was induced at 39 weeks for my first. My second was a RCS, and that was scheduled for 38 weeks. I also had NIPT with my second, it wasn't commonplace with my first (2011).

I'm almost 37 years old and 32 weeks pregnant - so far, I've just had the NIPT blood work done. I'll be having a growth scan tomorrow though, which I think is pretty standard for AMA pregnancies. If that's fine I don't think I'll have any extra monitoring this pregnancy, though my OB did say she would induce me at 39 weeks if I choose (but she'd also let me go to due date).

Have you had any add'l monitoring in your AMA pregnancy?
