I think so. We bought with that intention anyway. We have plenty of space and are in a great school district. Unless something drastically changes with our jobs, we'll stay put until our kids are through school.

We're in the process of buying our "forever home" - just waiting for closing on May 4 (everything else is final). DH says he's never moving because we'll never get a 3.875% interest rate on a mortgage again!
The house has way more space than we need for the three of us, but it gives us room to grow and still have private space. I'm really looking forward to moving (and getting out of our temporary digs in my parents' basement).

Well we're moving to a bigger place in 3 days (!) but I don't think that'll be our forever home...it's only a 2bedroom/2bath, and ideally we'd like a 3bedroom. But I think it's probably our "next two to three years" home, which is good enough for me.

I never believed in the concept of "forever" homes honestly. There are different places that I have lived in different times in my life and I suspect that will continue for the rest of my life.

Right now, we're planning a move back to the US, but if I had to, I could stay in Europe forever. I think the educational and healthcare systems are far superior.

The reason why we bought our house is because we could see it as our forever home. There's room enough to grow, has a country feel, a yard that's big enough for playing, but not so big we can't maintain it. We bought it 2 years ago and looking from the outside, it's a completely different house now - a very good thing =)

What we love the most is the location. It's an ideal place to raise a LO. There's a lakes nearby, forests, a nature preserve next to the closest elementary school. There's even a gated area where they let sheep graze during the summer on the way to the lake. All shops are walking distance, there's a hospital, a dentist, cafes. Once a year in September, there's a large market held in town, we get a lot of visitors then (it's a long running tradition - over 100 years strong). We even get German tourists every summer. So although it's barely a village by population, people are used to seeing foreigners. I look very much a foreigner and that's important to me. I love our little town!

But at the same time, I can now see us moving back to San Diego, my hometown. Not anytime soon, but there's always that possibility and as hard as it would be to leave our house, the prospects of better weather is something I long for. Maybe when our LO(s) are older ... who knows. Then again, we might be so rooted to this place by then. We'll see.

We still don't know where our forever city will be, so we are definitely not in our forever home yet. DH's job still requires us to move pretty frequently, so for now, we don't have a forever home.

We aren't in our forever home. We figured 5-10 years too, but based on my husband's work situation and being too far from family, we'll be moving sooner.

We love our house and neighborhood, but will look for something out of town next with some acreage, probably another bedroom, and definitely more bathrooms!

We bought our house intending on being it in it for 5-10 years, but it really could be our forever home if circumstances were that we couldn't afford to build our dream house for some reason.

Our current house has everything we could need, a good neighbourhood, good amounts of space etc but we would eventually like something bigger, with more modern architecture, and a few more luxury features.

We will be in (hopefully) 2 months, give or take!
We purchased a new house right around when we found out we were expecting. Before the house search we made the pain agony decision of where we will stay "Forever".

I LOVE our forever home because it has separation of public vs private spaces. 4 bedrooms, enough for family to come visit and we don't get displaced.
Open kitchen/dining/living area. A HUGE backyard. And it's in a great school district/neighborhood with many young families.

Oh no! :-) We're in a one bedroom apartment with a bathroom the size of a closet and an even smaller kitchen. Really - the kitchen is so small I can stand in the middle and touch the walls.
What I like about it? It's a blank canvas. If we were living here longer, I could have fun with the space.
But we're moving soon, thankfully.

Nope we are in our first home, but are currently planning our forever home. This will be out in the country on farmland. Ranch style home, open plan, plenty of room for the kids to grow up, and plenty of room for our family to grow. Large kitchen with island for entertaining, large closests in master bedroom, large master bath with double shower and huge whirlpool. Big enough bathroom for both (or 3) kids and large basement for kids to lounge in when older. Wet bar for parents in basement for entertaining!

No... we're renting, but it's giving me a chance to cement my preferences for when (and if) we do buy a house. :) I'm finding that sunlight in the living areas is crucial, and I'd love a yard for the kid(s) to play in. A rolling ladder in a small library isn't imperative, but I think I might try to convince my husband that it is! ;)

Yes. We moved to our forever home 2 years ago and are now in the process of trying to fill it up with little ones! I love that we have 5 acres (plenty of room for our chickens, ducks, and future kids to run), but hate our kitchen, so we'll be tearing that out in the fall, and hopefully doing other smaller renovations as we go along (it's a nice house, but older, so everything is very dated).

No, but mostly because we eventually plan to move back to the North East where our families are. But we very specifically did not buy a "starter" home. We bought a home with plenty of space that would work for us even if we were in it much longer than we intend to be. I never wanted to be in a situation where we were forced to sell at a bad time because we had outgrown the home.

I think we're home for good. Our house is big and our yard is a perfect size (not too big or small). Lots of room for improvements (redo hardwoods and update some rooms)... but the footprint is perfect for us and we love our neighborhood. I can't think of a situation that could get us to move at this point :)

No. We're currently in a condo, but the new place we're moving to isn't our forever home either. It's the place we bought hoping to save up for the forever home, which we don't plan on upgrading to for another 5-7 years. If things don't work out and we have to stay, though, it wont be the worst situation ever.

@artbee: It was a different situation w/ the hubs' parents-- they had their two boys, couldn't really afford to buy a better place (they did make an offer when DH was in high school), and now their kids are out of the house and they'd just rather stay. The schools weren't the best in their neighborhood, but I'm glad they didn't move, otherwise I never would have met DH! So we totally researched the schools in our neighborhood, even though we're hoping to move again before LO starts school.

Nah, but it’s a good home for us now. We bought our condo before we got engaged, so marriage and babies were not really part of the decision making process when we bought. Our place is large enough for 2 adults and a baby, but the layout won’t really work (and can’t be easily changed) for a family, and we want to get a place with a yard so we can get a dog.

@HabesBabe: that's what my parents did. They thought they'd upgrade, and make more than enough money to do so, but they're walking distance to all the good schools so they stayed. And now it's just 2 of them so they don't want a big house.
