Probably. It we move, it will most likely be to a better high school zone, so we have plenty of time. I do lament the lack of storage in this house though! We are planning to finish the basement and I'm slowly adding some storage pieces, so hoping that will help in the long-term.

Nope. Can't imagine staying in one home forever! We moved about every 7 years when I was a kid. If we stay here for 10, that would be a long time!

I'm not sure that we are even in our forever city. DH and I met here 8 years ago and bought a house 7 years ago and every couple months, we talk about moving elsewhere! We've considered moving closer to family, moving to one of our dream cities, etc. and he's had several opportunities arise. If we were to stay in this city, I don't think we would move. There's a great Catholic school close by and our house is large enough to accommodate our family of 3, plus one more.

Yes! It's also our first home. We bought in the neighborhood we wanted, and this is where I want to raise our family. It needs a lot of work, and I get easily frustrated by the time and money it takes to get it back in shape. I still love it though and can't imagine a different house for us.

Quite possibly. But we need to do some extensive renovations if so (3rd car garage and moving one 30' long exterior wall out about 15'...

With those improvements we could be happy here into retirement!

However if DHs parents ever wanted to talk seriously about 'gifting' us their house to completely gut renovated I think we would strongly consider!

Maaaybe! We were very careful, even with our first home, to buy something we *could* stay in forever if we needed to. Our current home has the potential to extend into the attic when we need the space but we might choose to move instead, when the time comes. At this point, I hope we stay here because I have already invested so much emotionally in doing it up.

For me, I really like the idea of living in my forever home. It is more economical (don't ever have to pay moving/buying/selling fees, super low interest rate), able to develop long term relationships and commit/invest into the community where we are. Just love that I don't ever have to move again. I came from a renting childhood that never had stability and I definitely had attachment issues with friendships. Meaning, friends had to make most of the effort to keep our relationship alive or it just died because I was used to people going in and out with all the moves. We moved almost every year after 4th grade (and a few times before that) so I just appreciate being able to rest in a home that has the idea of forever with it!

No way, the thought of staying in the same house or city forever makes me feel really claustrophobic! Moving is so cleansing, and I want my child to have the perspective that comes with living in different areas, different types of homes, etc.

We bought our house thinking we would stay about 3-5 years, but it's a house we could live in for longer if necessary. We would ideally like to build a house next and it would probably be the house we live in until the kids are grown. I am pregnant with #2 and DH works from home a lot so our 3 bedroom plus den is capacity. DH will always need a home office, we need a 3 car garage, we'd like to have guest quarters, and for our kids to have a rumpus room and a yard. And DH really wants a single story home because of his ankles AND he would like a pool soooo that's a lot of square footage we'd have to save for. But we are homebodies and really enjoy being at home together and entertaining so I see it as a home + our hobbies rolled into one.

I believe more in "stages of life" homes, and we just moved into the one that will be ours for a major portion of our lives while raising children, and bought with that intention in mind. We will definitely move into something much smaller after this stage of our life is over.

And to answer the OPs question. God I hope not

ETA: I have a different view on this forever home thing. We'd like to continue renting in the NYC area. If someday we have the means we'd like a forever "weekend" home. One of those prefab tiny house things on a pretty But small piece of land in upstate New York. Small budget. No space for visitors. Just a bed and bunks for the kid(s). We'd pay for it upfront (ha, dreaming) so there would be no mortgage and it will always be there. Forever.

I don't think so. We just bought last May and the plan is maybe 6-7 years until DH switched to a different school for work in a better district. We'll see. This home is large enough for the number of children we're planning and the back yard is about an acre, so it will definately work forever if we wanted it to!
