@LemonJack: ugh I’m sorry it is so hard when you don’t agree! I think your husband has to realize that it’s pretty much inevitable that they are going to end up at home sometime soon anyway, and if they’re home next week anyway you might as well start there with figuring out your new normal. For me, DH is still going into the office so I’m home with a 7, 5 and almost 2 year old while trying to work and sort of homeschool my 7 year old (she goes to a private school and they’ve sent almost TOO much to do at home). I feel like with your jobs you’d have to have set on and off hours, whatever that looks like to make sense for your meetings. Like 2 hours working alone in a spot as far away from the kids as possible, and then switch to do 2 hours watching the kids. It’s going to be hard at first for sure. I felt like I had a pretty good week getting into a groove with my 3 and then today had a complete crying breakdown during a meeting with my manager, I think everyone is trying to figure out how to make this work, it’s just a lot harder for people that have very young kids at home! I just keep reminding myself that I’m lucky I CAN work from home even though it feels pretty impossible to do it all right now.

We pulled our daughter. We want to be able to still see the grandparents, and my SIL is having a baby any day. Today we got a text from daycare that they have officially closed. I’m assuming most are closed at this point. Local schools are starting free child care for children of health care workers. I think that at least with that, they are all being exposed to very similar risks and are at higher risk of exposure in general.

Okay, I posted a few days ago about what I thought we were doing, but there’s some major tension between DH and me regarding what to do.

At the moment our daycare is open. She is an in home provider and there are three families. Our provider’s husband and daughter are working from home, and I know one of the two families has both parents working from home as well. I also know there is minimal contact outside of the families. I’m not sure about the third family.

Next week is spring break, so our kids will all be home. I told DH I don’t want to send the littles afterward. To be honest I feel like we should have them home already. He’s really frustrated with me and basically said I need to read the CDC recommendations and it’s “fine” if they go because it’s a small group. My thoughts are that yes, it is a small group and safer than a center, but we can’t control what others do, and I don’t want to contribute to the spread.

I’m frustrated. I feel like I’m in the right here, but want to hear other people’s opinions. I realize he’s stressed about getting work done, but let’s be honest, the entire WORLD is in this position right now and at least we can be working from home.

For reference, he has a job where he’s talking to people a lot throughout the day, I’m a teacher leading virtual classes, and we have three kids, the oldest of whom is 5 and is now being homeschooled, led primarily by me since I’m a teacher. We also have a baby who will be with me 90% of the time, and a 2.5 year old who will be the wild card. She’s a good kid, but she’s two.

@Bluemasonjar: Can your husband sleep with white noise? I found that the Alexa "nature sounds, thunder storms" sound is really easy to sleep through and it drowns out a lot. Good luck to your husband. Night shifts are tough for this reason.

Our youngest has a perpetual cold with lots of drainage and some coughing (no fever) so I kept him home. We sent my other DS to PreK on Monday but they closed yesterday so now he is home as well. It makes trying to get work done a nightmare as DH just started the night shift and is trying to sleep during the day.

Ours is still paying teachers. They sent out an email asking if we would pay 75% of tuition the next months. If that is difficult the center will work with you, or you also have the option to pay more if you can.

K-12 schools are closed here until April 6, so our 7 year old is home. We chose to pull our 4 year old from daycare for that time as well. DH and I are lucky that we can both work from home and I already had requested off for next week for spring break. Even if the daycare doesn't close, we can do our part by keeping the group smaller and limiting exposure to us and through us. I know not everyone has that option.

I am on the board for our small parent-run coop. We have 4 teachers. March tuition has been paid and May tuition as well (it’s paid in the fall). Not sure what we will do about April tuition (I imagine we will do our April board meeting by zoom). Or whether we will refund April. But our teachers need to be paid. It’s all a mess.

I have 2 kids, ages 2 and 4. The grandparents normally babysit 7a-3p and my 4 yr old goes to preschool 9-11am. They do drop off and pick up.

Our preschool follows the school district calendar, and DH & I are employed by the school district.... the complication is that our schools might be requiring teachers to report to empty classrooms next week. So then the question becomes, do we use our 7-11 sick days, do we each bring a kid to school with us, do we ask our SAHM friends (who will be stressed out with 3 kids of their own), or...... do we invite the (healthy, in their early 60s) grandparents back next week? Like, at one point does it become safe to see the grandparents again? They normally babysit for 40 hours a week, and they have been my daughter's only caregiver.

As for preschool, we paid for March. I don't know if they'll be asking for the full April tuition. I could pay for April, but I don't know about May. It all depends on as long as I am still getting paid too....

Our preschool is a small non profit, with just five regular teachers, they got together and decided to not pay themselves during the closure in order to hopefully keep the school afloat. They are discussing refunds and not accepting tuition depending on what happens. We have prepaid for the remainder of the year and do not plan on accepting the refund. The school has meant so much to us and the teachers feel like family.

This just because a moot point for us - daycare is closed as of the end of the day. The email made me burst into tears - my kids have been going there for five years, the teachers are so wonderful and we really love them, and I’m sure that they’re not getting paid.

Our daycare is still paying teachers. There are one year contracts for families and they as of now aren’t letting anyone out because they are a non profit and have almost no margins left after paying teachers. But a lot of people want out of contracts but to keep their slots. They are looking at loans to let some families not pay based on need but it’s already more expensive than other area daycares as they pay teachers well and this would further increase costs to pay back. In short it’s a mess. Margins in childcare are thin so i doubt most centers are in a position to pay teachers for an extended period if families aren’t still paying...

I sent DD1 yesterday but today I am going to tell DH we really need to pull her. I think our local grandparents will take her (it would be one extra day for each set of grandparents, and they will already be watching DD2 that day). I just can’t justify sending her at this point and still being around my parents (dad is 70, mom is 67).

We were sending our kids to daycare, but then the state shut them down last night. And our backup care (one of DD's teachers) was not answering her phone so we had to scramble to find childcare. Our neighbor (also a teacher at the kids' daycare) can watch our kids three days a week and is actually looking forward to it because her kids like to play with DD. We are staggering our work schedules the other days if teacher #1 ghosts us.

We’ve decided to pull DD out as well. Schools, restaurants and bars will all be closed in my state starting Wed and I’m going fully remote tomorrow. DH is going into work tomorrow then planning to be remote as much as possible until this blows over,. Once they shutdown schools he came around to keeping her home. I’m honestly looking forward to the family time. It’s going to be stressful trying to be productive for sure, but we’ll all be together, and we’ll both get to spend more time with DD while she’s tiny.

We're in the minority here but our schools our closed and we still sent DS2 to daycare. DS1 is more easy to keep occupied and has school work to do. It will be difficult to do the same for DS2. DH and I are both working from home but are in a super busy time right now and need to focus to get work done right now. We anticipate that daycare will be closed soon and know we'll have to shift when that happens. Honestly, I have doubts about this choice but it's the one we have to make for now.

We had this discussion and ultimately daycares were told to close today. Before that announcement we were keeping them home through Wednesday and evaluating daily, it is just changing so quick and moving...then the governor made the decision for us. Now explaining to my husband why being home with two kids and being 33 weeks pregnant and trying to work remote is exhausting and not feasible. Work is just going to have to understand. It is a tough situation for all of us but we have to slow the spread.

We are in the same boat, and I think we’ve decided to keep them home for now. This week will be an adjustment. Both DH and I will be working from home, and we’ll have our kindergartener, 2 year old, and 4 month old home. I’m a teacher so I’ll be trying to plan lessons for my students, and am also trying to come up with activities for our five year old. I think our two year old will be the exhausting one! It’s all so surreal.

Our daycare is one of the few that are closed. My mil didn’t believe me. I told her we received emails, texts, and discussed in person, and she still wanted me to follow up in person just to be sure. It makes it easier in a way because we know what’s going on.

School is closed for two weeks starting Monday but their aftercare is open and functioning as a daycare if we wanted. Neither DH or my work has closed although we are recommended to telework, both of us have only a few tasks that can be done remotely, most have to be there using lab equipment, etc. We are going to stagger schedules to keep the kids home and still go to work for at least the beginning of the week. My thought is, DH and I can be vigilant about hand washing, etc, but the kids wont be (and even if they were, can't trust other kids to) so it's best to minimize their contacts.

Good luck, stay healthy everyone!

Our school is closed. Our daycare is open. We can use our daycare for non-school days and summer. We are NOT sending them. I built our plan assuming they would follow the schools and close. It’s not worth it to me. I will do my best to balance work, parenting and faux educator over the next two weeks. This wasn’t even up for discussion in our house. My husband is in camp don’t leave our house. Unfortunately his company disagrees with him.

School is closed but daycare hasn’t closed yet. I let daycare know my son will be out for a few weeks. Hopefully if they get feedback from parents now it will help them with a decision. I am going to do my best to work with the kids home. DH is a nurse at the hospital. This is going to be a challenging time.

I’m in the same boat, DH and I will be WFH but the kids’ daycare has said they are not closing. I’ve gone back and forth but I think we’ve decided to keep both kids home in the name of social distancing... although it will be difficult to be productive while working from home with two little ones! 😅
