Yes- I know how to behave in public and around many types of people. I can put on a real show:) I grew up with money and was always used to meeting big timers and I was always like, (eye roll), really charismatic and basically I can be a chameleon around whoever I'm with.
But naturally? no? I mean I act like I'm from the hood half the time;) & I'm from the 'burbs. Oh well

I can when I need to be. I work with a lot of classy people. In general, DH and I are not fancy people. I still get flustered at fancy dinners/lunches though.

Um no I grew up in the ghetto. But, going to college and marrying my husband--who went to cotillion and did etiquette classes--has taught me to have much more grace and class. probably a good thing.

@MamaMoose: Slightly off-topic, but on the subject of etiquette: Did your mom throw your baby shower? My mom adheres to this etiquette rule that family members cannot give showers because it looks greedy. I know my mom would give me the BEST shower, so I really hope she gets over it!

My parents were BIG on etiquette and wanted me to be comfortable (i.e. not intimidated) in any situation in which I might find myself. I'm afraid I'm the same way now and will try to drill the same stuff into my children's brains!

DH's family is more laid back and DH's occasional lack of table manners (slurping, licking fingers etc.) drives me INSANE!

No! DH had to teach me about which fork to use, how to properly set a table, etc. My parents didn't even own a set of fine china. Holiday meals were eaten off of paper plates (there were a ton of people, so you'd have needed like 20 place settings, anyway). We're just not fancy people, I guess.

I didn't even know I was supposed to cut meat with my right hand until a couple of years ago and I still look awkward when I do it. My parents never emphasized etiquette type stuff. I've had to learn as an adult to I fit in at dinner parties.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: On each hand, make a circle by touching the tip of your thumb to the tip of your forefinger. As you look down at your hands, your left hand will look like a small letter “b” and your right hand will look like a small letter “d.” The “b”—that’s your left hand—stands for bread, meaning your bread plate is on the left side of the place setting. The “d”—that’s your right hand—stands for drinks, which means your drinks (wine, water, or any other beverage) are on the right side of your place setting. (from a Peter Post article)

My parents drilled into us at a young age manners & etiquette. I'm honestly quite tacky in private & w/good friends. I can switch the class on, however. DH works for Congress so thankfully I feel comfortable eating/making conversation at dinners, parties, events, etc, with people way above my station. Doesn't mean there isn't a constant dialogue going on in my head of very inappropriate things I wish I could say. DH says I'm good at making people feel comfortable/welcome in any situation which to me makes me happier than mastering any technical etiquette rule.
