Hmm... I think my answer is confusing...

I am less ambitious in that I'm not stressing or concentrating on my career path that much. It's more important to me to just always have a stable job or lots of job opportunities. So whatever career aspirations I had in the past that were kind of far-fetched, those are all dropped now for more sensible aspirations that I can definitely reach and succeed in.

But I used to hate going to work every day, and I dreaded new projects and responsibilities. Now I love going to work every day and I get excited about new projects and responsibilities.

So big-picture ambition has gone down, but everyday ambition has gone up?

I totally agree that for me, having kids has been very fulfilling for me so I don't crave as much fulfillment in my career.

I am more ambitious for Wagon Sr. though!! His career is really taking off and he's started classes towards his masters (he's working on two different degrees right now), and I'm really excited for him!

I am more ambitious in the sense that I have more drive to do better and more reason to succeed but I have no desire to work lots of overtime to be rich. Just want a better career and to be more comfortable than we are now

Yes. I am applying to jobs right now and based on my experience I should be applying to director level positions. Although I've applied to one or two, I'm mostly looking at lateral positions because I don't think I can juggle having a baby and the long hours and attachment to my e-mail 24/7. My supervisor had a baby right before I did and she's always so stressed because she's always working. I don't want that.

I think working and raising a kid is awfully ambitious in and of itself, so I'd say no -- more so. But if you're talking, do I want to work long hours and make a ton of money, no. But I was never like that. I like money, but I am more of a worker bee than a leader. I'd rather be given work than be a manager or CEO. (I managed somebody, 1 person, once, never again). I've never thought if myself as not ambitious though -- just aware of my strengths and weaknesses, and work had never been the #1 priority in my life.

Nope, I'm leaning in, I guess. Luckily I have a great and supportive partner and kids and lots of help!

Yes, for sure. I just changed jobs because the old one's "up or out" culture/hours/etc, which was fine for me pre-baby, just wasn't going to happen anymore.

Totally. I am currently legal counsel and wanted to be a least assistant general counsel in 5 years. But now that I have LO, I don't know if I'm willing to put in the hours to move up quickly. My priority is now making sure that he is happy and healthy and my previous ambitions now don't seem as important.

Before kids, I wanted to be extremely successful and loved working crazy hours, especially on weekends when you get so much done.

I'd still love to be very successful of course, but I'm not as ambitious post-kids due to a variety of factors. I can't work the hours I want/need to achieve those goals and still be present enough to raise the kids the way I want to. I just have so much less energy and time than I thought I would post-kids. And having a family is very fulfilling, and I think I need/want less now.

It may change as the kids get older because I really do enjoy working and want to pursue many more ventures in life. But for now, I am feeling much less ambitious than I was pre-kids.

Has your ambition waned post kids?
