I just stopped, and I'd say it's a little of both. I'm kind of relieved, but I'll also miss it.

I just stopped recently. LO was never a great nurser but it was the best first thing in the morning. I loved being able to provide for him in that way (and cuddling with him). But it was also stressful. I never knew if he would push me away and get frustrated.

So a little of both really. I miss that relationship but I can spend more time with him playing now and not worry about "his next meal".

I cried when I stopped breastfeeding and found it quite difficult. I still miss that special time.

@lemondrop: How's it going now? I hope it has gotten better for you. My LO is 8 weeks and it has been getting better for me as he gets bigger.

I am looking forward to stopping, but I do love the bonding. Bottle feeding is definitely bonding time too, though. (I'm mostly pumping right now, I "breastfeed" but he doesn't get much milk from it, we're hoping he will as he gets bigger.) But I really want my body back, I'm tired of the sore nipples, plugged ducts, timer over my head.

Learning how to breastfeed was probably one of the most difficult/painful experiences of my life, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. My baby is almost 11 weeks and I love that she is getting more and more efficient at feeding because it can be so time consuming! My plan at the moment is to breastfeed until she is a year old, but I am really looking forward to the day when I can stop :)

I've been breastfeeding for almost 14 months now, which is MUCH longer than I had anticipated, and I can't wait to start weaning her. Gonna start after we get back from vacation in a few weeks.

Def a little bit of both dread and excitement. I will keep going though til she self-weans. I can't imagine myself being the one to cut it off at this point.

@Rubies: Thank you! Your post makes me feel a lot better, it is really hard! I'm glad I took the class and met with any lactation consultant that would see me in the hospital, but even so its nice to see it gets better.

Not sure yet- I actually had this conversation day before yesterday with my mom. She nursed us for 2 years each and loved it... I like it, but don't love it 2 1/2 weeks in. We've had some latching problems, and are finally getting into the swing of things (I hope, knock on wood!).

Frustrated the other night, I asked her when she started loving it- she said 3 days.... not helpful! She said the bigger they get the easier it is, here's hoping. I'm not anywhere near quitting, but I would like to love it. I've got an appointment with my lactation consultant tomorrow, and that always makes me feel better.

I look forward to the day I can stop. But I have a feeling I won't have much of a break between kids since I wanna nurse for at least 18 months.. ideally 2 years!

I just can't wait to stop and have my body back. It will also be great to not feel like I constantly have a timer over my head when I go on solo errands.

Up until she was 3 months old, I wanted to give it up because I was having so many problems. But after that, it got better and now it's perfect...I love breastfeeding but I can't wait to stop just to have that part of my body back.

I feel the same. She's 6 months now and I feel like it went by so fast, what's another 6 months? Was planning to stop around a year. She takes a bottle a day but I pretty much have to force feed her. It's even harder now that she's stuffed up. But I know I'll miss it. I don't miss that it makes me so neurotic - i always worry if she's eating enough. And I miss having a real drink.

@Mrs. Bee: Same. I love that he's still nursing like a champ at 7 months ... but what I wouldn't give for just a weekend away! He takes bottles, but I don't have a ton socked away in the freezer and it's such a pain to pump to replace every missed feeding.

I'll be sad that that bond isn't there anymore, it's been more special to me than I ever thought.

But my little girl is 8 months now and is eating a bit of solids everyday so in a way it's nice to feel like I don't have to worry about pumping or nursing every time she eats (just most of the time).

So I guess I'll feel a bit of sadness and a bit of independence.

I quit after a week. And I also went both ways. It was too much and I was in too much pain, so it was a relief to stop. But I hated that she wasn't going to get the health benefits and bonding. Although now that she's bottle fed, I know that you're still able to bond over bottle feeding.

A little of both for me. I will be happy to have my body back but will miss my special little bond with her I'm sure when the time comes to wean. It's my one trick I can use to soothe her in a way no one else can.

She is comfort nursing as I type! :)

What bout you?
