I have family in that area, too, so that may explain it :) Either way, I would be disowned if I didn't have at least a bite of sauerkraut on New Year's. As a little kid, I thought it was nasty, but we had to do it anyways! This year, I made potato pancakes with sauerkraut in them, and I put some in with my pork roast. I just won't do it with caraway seeds. That is one thing that everyone did growing up that I just cannot get behind. It smells so good already!! I can't wait to eat!!</p> <p>My family never had any traditional foods that we always ate at New Years but my mom would always cook a nice big dinner that day since dad would be home with us all day. I never knew until I moved to Nashville that Southerners eat Black Eyed Peas and Turnip Greens at New Years. I have not picked up that tradition since I don't like either of those things!! Do you have traditional New Years food that you eat? </p>
