I talk/email the teachers quite a bit and he only has homework on Wednesdays - I do sit down with him while he does it but it takes 5 mins. His K teacher says that they shouldn't need any help with homework and he doesn't, I just observe

He also has a daily math worksheet called everyday math - like @brownie: mentioned its counting windows in your house - how many steps does it take to walk from the kitchen to your bedroom, etc etc.

We'll see how 1st grade goes in the fall!

It's too early to tell...I think it will change when we are at least in elementary school and there's homework. Regardless of what I think the homework policy SHOULD be, if there is homework, it's going to have to get done.

Now, I didn't want or need help with my homework on a regular basis. I didn't need my mom or dad to review my stuff on a daily basis, so I don't know how that is going to play out with my son.

Much less. I thought I would be the kind of parent who got really into arts and crafts and taught early reading. I don't do any of that! We do read a ton of stories though, and I truly believe his preschool teachers are much better at real teaching than I will ever be.

I don't believe that kids at that age should have homework other than the basic reading every day and some fun activities like counting the windows in the house. But he is still in preschool and I am involved in his extra curriculars pretty strongly and I watch him at school every morning when I drop him off.

I definitely thought I'd spend an hour every afternoon with my kids, going over homework! My son is in Kindergarten now though, and we definitely don't review homework at the table! We read books for 30-45 minutes every night though, so that's something at least.

I hope to help more as he gets older! Right now, it seems like the focus is on literacy and basic numbers.
