I think candy can wait until an older age. Stickers and crayons would be amazing!

@Oceanis723: I think one lollipop is totally fine for 3 year olds. And you provided other favors so if a parent didn't want their child to have a lollipop, then they could easily distract them with the other things. A bag full of candy makes distraction a bit more difficult!

All candy, probably not something I'd like for LO. We're in the keep off candy as long as possible camp. I don't want her to have refined sugar as long as I can avoid it (still trying to figure out what I'll do for her first birthday?!). I would try and pull a 'fogot it at the party' type thing.

We did a Disneyland themed party for my twins third. Kathy's. They had a Mickey coloring book and stickers plus one Mickey lollipop. I guess after reading this post I may have pissed off some parents. I thought one little treat might be ok. I don't mind if mine get a little candy but when the were younger I had to take away some of the stuff they couldn't have yet, like gummy or small hard candy.

I honestly have no idea. I know right now I'm not ok with LO having candy, but she's only 13 months old. I would like to keep her away from it for as long as possible, but I also think that things are ok in moderation so a little treat here and there might be ok. But then again if she has a birthday party every week and gets a treat bag full of candy every week..... not ok. I guess I have to wait until she's a little older to know how I will feel about it.

At LO's first birthday all of the kids there were 3-6 years old, and I stayed away from candy favors. I just didn't want to piss off any parents!

I would almost prefer no goodie bags. The toys are cheap and not needed typically. For LO first birthday we passed out books with his picture in them. The idea was at $5 each they were the same as the toys and could be used much longer.

@Andrea: for real?!?! that's so weird. I kind of love the fact that I know EXACTLY what's in the playdough my kid is most likely eating when I look away hahaha!!

@looch: I love the idea of a craft to take home!

@Coco Bee: When I tell my friends that I make homemade play dough, they look at me like I have two heads. They would probably throw it out just like I throw out their candy, LOL!

yuck. as some of you may know - I'll be trying to keep candy out of LO's life as much as possible (yeah... we'll see how long that lasts ;)). So definitely I will not be doing candy favors. I may make "treats" that aren't so unhealthy though.

Plus, I think it's more fun to get a favor bag with more unique things in it. My mom used to make homemade play dough and portion it out to all the kids - that was always a hit! so fun.

I'd rather no treat bag than something filled with candy or small plastic toys.

I really like doing a small, simple craft at the party and that is the favor.

No I dont like that idea at all. When I was younger the party favors were mostly toys, little coloring books, mini bouncy balls, bubbles, stickers etc and maybe some cake.

At a 3 year old's party I think that's not the best idea. But after maybe age 5 or 6... I don't think it's a big deal as long as it's a small amount. It's cheap and easy so I could see why it would be an attractive option for the person putting the favors together.

We went to a 3 year old's bday party and the favor bag was full of candy even though most of the other kids were closer to 2 yo, like DD. I told DD that I needed scissors to open the candy and that we needed to wait until we got home. By the time we got home, she forgot about it so I threw it all away. I'm not OK with candy for her yet but I guess other parents must feel differently. How about you?
