Yes our university has 'career ladders' for every department. I'm currently on the 2nd rung, and I hope to move up (from a Library Specialist II to III) next spring. I'm currently working on a Master's degree that should allow me to move either to a supervisory position or (and this is my hope!) to a real 'Librarian' position that would mean my salary would double or triple. I plan on working my butt off the next 3 years to get it done!!

Not really but I am working full time from home and have a good salary. Since we're adding another kiddo into the mix, this is as good as it will get (without sacrificing too much family time of course)! I need the flexibility over career advancement at this point.

There really isn't anywhere to go at my company. I also don't really have any plans to move in the future. I'm a manager now but I have a decent salary and my job is pretty easy. I'm not one of those people who has to keep climbing, climbing, climbing. As long as I'm happy, I don't mind staying here.

At my current job I can go from designer to senior designer which would make me responsible for 2 designers under me. This position doesn't exist but my boss discussed it with me before I left for maternity leave.

This would mean a raise but maybe not what I should get paid for the responsibility it entails. I still have 10 month before I go back to work so things might change until then. Then the next position would be my bosses. He would love for me to take it, I on the other hand am not so sure. I'd be happy be a senior position with the pay and flexibility.

I'm aiming to be entirely self-employed and never have my income capped by salary. The only way to go is up!

@artbee: I think that means you are adding more bosses!

There is no possibility for growth at my current job which is why I am looking.

If I stay at my current job, no. But I'm planning on changing jobs after year end and that should be a nice pay raise and more potential for advancement.

I hope so! I have been working towards a national position for the past couple of years and there has been a lot of progress being made. Hopefully it will come to fruition. I have a good job now, with a decent salary, but the national position could lead to a significant pay raise down the road but would also likely entail additional travel. DH recently took a more local job with more flexibility so I could pursue future job opportunities. He has a good job too but is capped out, and has been for many years.

Currently I am a senior manager and I can't see myself advancing my career at this company for several years. The next jump would be Director of Operations with a nice salary bump but would require FT in the office and a lot more responsibilities. I am happy with my position for now and will worry about serious career advancement when my LO(s) are older.
